West Virginia Brings NY Flavor to Final Four

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — After Kelvin Sampson resigned from Indiana two years ago in the wake of a recruiting scandal, Devin Ebanks had to figure out what to do next.

Ebanks, a 6-foot-9 forward from Long Island City, N.Y., initially signed with Indiana. But he and his AAU coach, Lawrence McGugins, got Indiana athletic director Rick Greenspan to approve an addendum to Ebanks’ letter of intent that would allow him to leave the school should Sampson depart.

Ebanks opened up his recruitment and considered Texas, Memphis, Rutgers and West Virginia, with Memphis garnering serious consideration.
