Terrence Jones picks Washington

Terrence Jones will follow his teammate Terrence Ross to college.

At a press conference at Portland (Ore.) Jefferson, the 6-8 Jones reached out to a table holding six baseball hats and picked up a black Washington Huskies hat as the assembled crowd let out a roar.

“I wanted to be close to home. Like I’ve been saying since the eighth grade, I wanted to play with Terrence Ross and I just feel that Coach [Lorenzo] Romar is like a father figure to me,” Jones told the crowd and the more than 25,000 people watching on UStream.

The No. 3 power forward in the class of 2010 and The Oregonian’s two-time Class 5A Player of the Year, Jones chose the Huskies over Kansas, Kentucky, Oregon, Oklahoma and UCLA. He visited Kansas last weekend, giving the Jayhawk fans hope.

Dan Hurley Boldly Reshaping Wagner Roster; Frank, Self, Crean Headline Coaches’ Clinic

Dan Hurley has been on the job less than a month at Wagner College and he is already boldly reshaping the roster.

Of course, when a team goes 5-26 the previous season, some reshaping is in order.

Having already signed guard Latif Rivers and big man Orlando Parker, Hurley is now taking aim at Naofall Folahan, a 6-foot-10 center from Wilbraham and Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Mass., who is visiting the Staten Island school this weekend.

Folahan visited Tulane last week and is also considering Davidson.

“I think he should know at least a week from now, if not sooner,” Wilbraham and Monson assistant coach Mike Mannix said of Folahan’s decision.

Folahan averaged 8 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks last year at Wilbraham and Monson. He spent the previous year at Fitchburg (Mass.) Notre Dame Prep and at one time was committed to Marist.

Fran Fraschilla and Mike Rice are the two leading candidates to replace Fred Hill at Rutgers, according to a source with knowledge of the decision-making progress.

“Fran and Mike are 100 percent in the mix. They’re in the mix. They [Rutgers] are speaking to them,” the source said.

Former Philadelphia 76ers coach Eddie Jordan withdrew his name from consideration. Temple coach Fran Dunphy and former Boston College coach Al Skinner have also been in the mix, but do not appear to be leading candidates at this time.

St. Joe’s Leading for Former Johnnies Recruit

Former St. John’s signee Ronald Roberts is considering three schools and hopes to decide within about a week.

“He’s leaving today [Friday] for Virginia and he’s going to Georgia Tech either Monday-Tuesday or Tuesday-Wednesday or next weekend. I’m trying to find out if I can get him out of school next week,” St. Peter’s Prep coach Mike Kelly said Friday.

“Then he’s going to make a decision based upon Georgia Tech, Virginia or St. Joseph,” Kelly added.

Asked when the 6-foot-7 Roberts would decide, Kelly said, “Next weekend.”
