Is Tom Pecora the next coach at Fordham University?

Pecora says no,  but other sources say yes.

“My phone has been ringing constantly with people congratulating me on getting the Fordham job,” Pecora told Sean Brennan of the Daily News Tuesday evening. “That’s pretty funny because I haven’t even been contacted by Fordham yet. I don’t know where these things get started but nothing yet. But I’ll let you know if I hear from them.”

“There’s nothing done on this end,” the source said Tuesday. “As far as I know we haven’t spoken with anyone yet [except interim coach Jared Grasso].”

Coaching moves, Hurleys, Seton Hall

As first reported here Saturday, legendary St. Anthony coach Bob Hurley is serving as an unofficial adviser to Seton Hall in its search for a new head coach.

Hurley, 62, spoke with Seton Hall officials over the weekend. He politely declined to say whether he spoke with Seton Hall AD Joe Quinlan or Pat Hobbs, the Dean of the Law School. Hurley previously said he and Quinlan have a close relationship.

Hurley said he didn’t endorse a particular candidate.

“We talked about the position,” Hurley said Tuesday. “I just gave my feelings about the type of person that they need to hire.”

Hurley added that “there’s a list of about six guys that they’re interested in talking to.”

Coaching moves, Florida, St. John's

Florida is flatly denying Tuesday’s Daily News story that a St. John’s booster offered Billy Donovan more than $3 million per year to coach the Red Storm.

“St. John’s did not contact us regarding Billy Donovan. There is no truth to the report that he turned down $3 million a year….zero truth,” said Fred Demarest, Florida’s assistant AD for Communications.

The Daily News quoted a source saying that billionaire St. John’s alum Mike Repole, the founder of Glaceau, offered Donovan a contract  on behalf of the school

“Thank you so much but no thank you,” said Donovan, according to the source, called a “confidant” by the paper.

Arizona, Coaching moves, Miami, Robert Morris, Seton Hall

Robert Morris coach Mike Rice will meet Wednesday with Seton Hall officials.

The news was first reported by Jeff Goodman on Twitter and I confirmed it with a source with direct knowledge.

Rice, 41, led Robert Morris to the NCAA tournament for the second straight season, nearly toppling No. 2 Villanova before falling 73-70 in OT last Thursday in Providence.

Rice declined comment when reached.

“I think Mike Rice would be a good candidate for any job,” Villanova coach Jay Wright said. “He’s got great passion. He’s an excellent leader. He’s a very good recruiter. And I would recommend him for any job.”
