Josh Selby will announce his college decision right here in the Big Apple during the Jordan Brand Classic April 17.
The 6-2 senior point guard from Baltimore (Md.) Lake Clifton lists Kansas, Kentucky, Arizona and UConn as his final four, but Tennessee coaches Bruce Pearl and Steve Forbes recently went to watch him play.
“At one time Josh was going to announce his decision when he finished his visits,” Selby’s mother, Maeshon Witherspoon, told Rivals.com. “Now we are waiting ’til the Jordan Game, so we can see how all the teams play in the tournament. It has nothing to do with us being concerned with what Brandon [Knight] is doing.”
The 6-3 Knight is the nation’s No. 1 recruit according to Rivals and lists Kansas, Kentucky, UConn, Florida and Miami.
His father, Efrem, told me Sunday his son still hadn’t decided but would do so over the next few weeks.
Dave Beckerman, Knight’s coach at Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest, said he expected many of the top players to discuss their options with one another during the McDonald’s All-American Game March 31 in Columbus, Ohio.
Selby, Knight, Cory Joseph and Doron Lamb — the top four unsigned guards in the nation — will all be together and presumably will talk about their college options.
That group will also reconvene April 17 in New York, when Selby will announce.
Coast to Coast Recruiting & Season Updates
By Alex Kline
The high school hoops season is coming down to the wire and what a great few months it has been. With April signing periods creeping up on recruits, visits are being made and decisions are coming. In this article we will profile some players who are weighing their options all around the country.
Perry Ellis, 2012, Heights (KS)
Perry’s Mom, Fonda Ellis, On Her Son’s Offers and List: He has six offers. In order by who offered first Kansas, Memphis, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Wichita State and Kansas State. The others that stay in close touch are UNC, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Arizona. They all stay in touch with coach. He has over 40 colleges sending him info; not any order just started making a list. I did the same thing for my daughter.
Fonda Ellis On When Her Son Might Commit: He said when he is ready. It could be his junior year or the beginning of senior year.
Fonda Ellis on Whether Location Would Be a Factor: We have family in S.C. that would love him to go on the East Coast. He really doesn’t say anything about location he just wants the right fit for him.
On His Current List: Arizona, Arkansas, UConn, Georgetown, Providence, Miami, Florida, Kentucky, UCLA, California, Seton Hall, and West Virginia. All of the schools have offered except for Kentucky.
On Rumors That Arizona Is His Favorite: I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite. It’s the only school I have visited. As of now they kind of have the edge over other schools.
On His Only Visit to Arizona: It was a great experience. The fans and the whole environment was great.
On other possible visits: I’m not really sure yet. I’m still in the process of figuring it all out.
On When He Will Commit: I will most likely commit to a school in April.
To read the Q&A in its entirety, go here.
Todd Mayo, 2010, Germantown (TN) Memphis Grizzlies Star OJ Mayo’s Younger Brother
On His Current List: Memphis, Tennessee, Missouri, and West Virginia
On When He Will Commit: I will commit at the end of the season.
Myles Davis, 2011, St. Peter’s Prep (NJ)
On His Current List: UConn, George Mason, Georgetown, Rutgers, Providence, Seton Hall, Wake Forest, Virginia, Maryland, UMass, St. Joe’s, Marquette, and some more. There is no favorite.
On The Storybook Season: It’s going good for now. I mean, we got this far and were trying to go farther. So the job isn’t done yet. The season is still going on so I don’t wanna curse anything yet.
On Potential Visits: Not yet. I haven’t really done anything about the schools. I’m thinking more about States. That’s the main focus.
On When He Will Commit: I will probably commit before my senior season.
Dwayne Polee, 2010, Westchester (CA)
On His Current List: Georgia, Gonzaga, Arizona, USC, Rutgers, and UNLV with no favorite.
On When He Will Commit: I plan on making my commitment in late March or early April.
Gorgui Dieng, 2010, Huntington Prep (WV), Soon To Be Louisville Commit
On His Intentions of Committing to Louisville: I like the people, Coach Pitino, Walter McCarty. He was like 17 years old when he was being recruited by Pitino; now they work together. That shows it can improve a friendship and family at Louisville.
On When He Will Commit: I will not commit until March 15th. I will most likely commit then.
For more on Gorgui’s potential commitment, go here.
Nigel Williams-Goss, 2013, Findlay Prep (NV)
On His Current List: UConn, Mississippi State, Washington State, UNLV, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona, Hawaii, Washington, and Tulane.
On If He Has Plans To Commit Despite His Age: No I’m just taking it one step at a time. I’m more focused on winning now.
St. Patrick’s Seniors Reflect upon Abrupt Ending
Chase Plummer, 2010, UMBC Commit: It is unbelievable. I didn’t think that a great season and my high school career would end like that.
Kyrie Irving, 2010, Duke Commit: It’s sad because all these guys are family and we here at St. Patrick’s are built on brotherhood. This season was really special because although it was my senior season, I’ve become so close with all my teammates. It’s heartbreaking the way the season had to end but now all of the seniors can move on to their endeavors that are waiting for them. I love St. Patrick’s, from the coaching staff teachers and my brothers.

It’s pretty awesome that in only his first year at Arizona, Miller already has consideration from the top prospects in the land.
Whether we land any of them is a different story, but I feel confident in the next couple years Miller will have Arizona back in the national spotlight.

Good stuff Adam! Should be an exciting month. Miller was a great hire for you Zona fans. I am glad he is out west and not near our backyard anymore. Cal was out in Vegas recently checking out Findley Prep. Joseph said he wasn’t interested, but Cal was there looking at three other players.

Hopefully Selby commits to AZ, but just wishful thinking here. Oh well, good luck to the kid wherever he commits. If not let’s move on to hopefully Jack or Lamb
/
ZonaWildcat / March 10, 2010
We need a point guard. Realistically Arizona is in the running for Lamb or McCallum. I would prefer McCallum only because he is a true point guard.
Lamb’s father keeps telling recruiters his son can play the 1 even though he’s been playing the 2, but I would rather have someone with a little more experience at the 1.
But who knows, we may land Selby. Here are my predictions…
Knight to Kentucky
Selby to Kansas
Lamb to Arizona
McCallum to wherever his dad is.
That’s probably how it will end up. Of course I’m hoping for a Selby/Lamb combo to Arizona but I know that’s really reaching. Don’t hurt to dream. 🙂

Cat in the Desert / March 10, 2010
IMHO i think we’ll land Lamb and Jack. I think that is a pretty decent recruiting class and with the young Cats we got now, can make a serious run next year. But I still don’t think were out of the Running for Selby. If the kid is smart and wants to own a conference, he’ll go to Zona, but something tells me he’ll end up at KU. Either way the kid is set for the NBA after next year.

Honestly, the only way I see us beating out Kansas in this Selby Sweepstakes is to win the “Whack9” tourney. Seriously, we need to make a deep run in the tourney. Point blank, it is simple as that.
Real season starts today, beat UCLA by 7. Then, next round we need to punk California by 12. Last but not least, blow out the Fuskies by 18 in the final.
Going on record and saying this. From the aforementioned scenario, we would probably be a 6th seed in the tourney. It is not only vital, but necessary to make a sweet 16 appearance. Then, Selby, Lamb, and Jack, shoot even T. Jones head down to Tucson.
Book a national championship run in 2011!

if the cats win the pac-10 tournament there is no way they would get a 6 seed, i’d say a 9 or 10 at best. i’m an arizona fan but i’ve come to terms with the fact that they although they have shown flashes of greatness they are mediocre at best this year overall. i’ll be happy if they can just simply get a tournament bid, it won’t feel like march without one, but even if they do there’s nooo way they make the sweet 16, they’d likely have to upset a higher seeded team first round, and then probably a 1 or 2 second round, which definitely doesn’t happen. IF (that’s a big if) they make the dance, no way they get past the second round. hopefully these kids won’t need them to in order to take them seriously. hopefully they will just be able to see that arizona will be a dominant force in the pac-10 NEXT YEAR, which is what really matters for them anyway. it would be cool if the school you are going to go to made an NCAA run your senior year of high school but ultimately that means nothing for these kids, what matters is the future of the program, and it is very bright at Arizona

AZ,
I’m BACK!
So, Selby is DOWN to Arizona and Kansass.
Easy choice for the folks in the West.
But, we ALL know the bull coming from Self.
All that stuff he talked about LUTE is not easily forgotten.
And NEVER forgiven.
Right Kansass Gangster U folks.

No way az is stealing Terrence Jones from UW’s own back yard. lol He has been seen sporting Husky Hoodys and Beannies. It was okay to wish though, and I am not even a Husky fan. But live in the pacific northwest.
/
Cat in the Desert / March 11, 2010
Zona’s been stealing recruits from the Pacific northwest for years, in fact thats more of our back yard than the oregon or washington schools. If there is a quality recruit from that area and were not landing, that is the opposite of the norm. Just take for instance the last good recruit from that area: Abdul Gaddy, he committed to Zona and the only reason he’s at UW now is cause of the coaching uncertainty before this year.
/
fearthephog25 / March 11, 2010
Then you stole nothing! lol Gaddy never put on a az uniform. As for TJ, good try but fail.
/
Cat in the Desert / March 11, 2010
We never made a real push for TJ, if we would have i asure you, he’d be committed by now.
/
fearthephog25 / March 11, 2010
ROFL!!
SURE SURE
You guys need all the help you can get. So you’d rather he torch you in the whack 10 playing for UW?
Think maybe its because your coach knew he couldn’t land him? lol
Any other excuses son?
/
Cat in the Desert / March 12, 2010
He can torch us all he wants. I actually hope he commits to a Pac-10 school, the talent level in our conference is pretty low and we all need all the help we can get. Just cause we need him doesn’t mean were gonna go recruit every single kid. Heck UA UW ASU UCLA all need players like Knight, TJ, Joseph, Lamb it doesn’t mean were gonna recruit them all. Know the sport and how it works before you get on here and start posting nonsense. Its obvious you don’t even follow College ball. Have fun in your dark closets plotting your suicide, thats all the Pacific Northwest is good for anyways.
/
RockChalkWoody / March 12, 2010
Jessie, there you go again speaking your usual nonsense regarding Bill Self. Hey, if it makes it easier for you when you lose recruiting battles then continue to rip the guy.
Honestly, you and a couple of other UA fans constantly say that Self said negative $hit about Lute. Where’s your proof? Did Lute tell you this? If so, was he even with it at the time?
“But, we ALL know the bull coming from Self.
All that stuff he talked about LUTE is not easily forgotten.
And NEVER forgiven.
Right Kansass Gangster U folks.”
Right back at you, d-bag. Enjoy the ride…at the NIT.

HallBall / March 12, 2010
LOL Not to be the stickler or anything but who really cares about the Pacific NorthWest when It comes to College Basketball. I mean, Wasington and Washington State have to be the most boring game to watch In a already boring Pac-10, and If your stealing their recruits out of their own backyard It just goes to show how much support they lack for the Huskies In that region. Out of all the teams In the Pac-10 talent wise, Oregon I think Is the cream of the crop hands down.
/
HallBall / March 13, 2010
Oh and the Cal Bears…
/
davidpk19 / March 19, 2010
What is going on with the Big Least in the tournament? Only one win and that was in over-time over a 15 seed team which was robbed of the victory by the refs! What an embarrassment for a conference that talked a lot of smack about being so powerful! And that Rick Barnes and his weak team getting eliminated in the first round! Wow!
