Jeff Calhoun says his father hasn’t made any decision about retirement and that he expects his father to coach for several more years.
“I can tell you unequivocally on my children he has not made a decision to retire and I fully expect him to be back,” Jeff Calhoun said late Monday night by phone.
SNY’s “Loudmouths” reported Monday that “Sources close to Jim Calhoun believe he will retire at season’s end.”

Guess that’s It for all the Calhoun talk…

ZonaWildcat / March 9, 2010
Awesome coach I hope he has a few more years on him.
But Lute Olson’s kids said the same thing about him believe it or not. Calhoun is only getting older and as we all know you don’t get better with age.
I have no doubt Coach Calhoun will be back next year, but what about the year after that? And the year after that?
These recruits who are committing to UCONN right now want to know they will be playing for Calhoun for the next 4 years, otherwise its harder for a recruit to go somewhere when they are not even sure who will replace Calhoun when the time comes.
Like I’ve said many times, I hope it works out for this Hall of Fame coach and all the Huskie nation. I can’t help but cringe when I hear more storys developing about Calhoun because its Lute Olson dejavu and I know what me and all the rest of the Arizona fan base had to go through, and still are.

Oh, well I guess his son said he is coming back so Calhoun will be back…give me a break, what else is his son going to say if his dad hasn’t announced yet.
But the truth is he probably will come back, until his health takes the decision out of his hands. This reminds me so much of the Lute Olson saga…infact, Lute’s kids not only said he was coming back, he came back and then couldn’t make it through the season. And that is when the wheels came off!
I do hope this guy stays healthy for all you UCONN fans (and really for all basketball fans everywhere). He is a great coach and has represented the game well! It just sucks that no matter how great these coaches are, the only one who is undefeated is father time!

One really wonders if your interest in Coach Calhoun’s health would be so great if AZ weren’t going up against UConn for some prized recruits?
Unbelievable how transparent some people can be…the Husky Nation thanks you for your feigned concern.

ZonaWildcat / March 9, 2010
Lol ok. To be quite honest, I could care less if Calhoun comes back.
Most of us comment on Calhoun because his situation is EXACTLY what we went through at Arizona. Nothing more nothing less.
Good luck!

I honestly don’t wish for anyone to go through what UofA had to go through, although I am sure it could have been much worse, it wasn’t fun all the same. We had so many quality players leave during that time, but worse to see Lute wanting to coach but not able to was heart breaking. The only saving grace was we got Miller instead of Floyd! If that didn’t transpire Arizona would be nothing more than a foot note in the history books of college basketball.
As far as giving you lip service on wishing your coach well, don’t be an idiot! I am not writing this because of the recruits! I mean do you really believe recruits are swayed by what a couple fans write on these things. If you do, you probably think you are a little more important than you are. I am only writing this because I have seen this story before, and I know how it ended last time.

Please…spare me the humanitarian BS. This is a blog in regards to basketball and everyone and anyone who writes on one is not doing so for altruistic reasons; especially when they are not commenting about their team. You want to wish Calhoun well, send him a card or better yet say a prayer. You are a fan of AZ, much like I am a fan of UConn, and therefore we both have an agenda…to see our team get the best shot to win by obtaining the best available talent.
Recruits are teenage boys…of course they are swayed by what people write about them…otherwise a kid like Brandon Knight would have signed by now. I’m not so vain to think that what I specifically write will get back to an individual recruit and “sway” his decision but the perception created by comments like yours, as they are picked up and run with by others, does have an impact no matter how little the degree.
With that said, I’m not looking to be an idiot…it sometimes just happens. Good luck to you and your team.

So if you’re not a UConn fan you cannot sincerely wish Coach Calhoun best of luck with his health and the rest of his coaching career? Your level of cynicism is unmatched.
/
ZonaWildcat / March 9, 2010
Actually we are commenting on a story ABOUT the possibility of Calhoun not coming back are we not?
This article is about Calhoun’s son saying that he is coming back to coach next year. Both Kevin and I commented on how that is EXACTLY what we went through with Lute’s son, so what is our agenda? We are discussing similar situations.
I was trying to be cool about it but bottom line your coach is done. Get ready to replace him because beyond next year he won’t be coaching. I know you are in the clouds right now, so when reality sets in and you come back down to earth, you will see the signs like everyone else.

Based on the loss we just took, I’d probably want to retire if i was him

Kevin B / March 9, 2010
First of all, if I am not a fan of UConn I can’t hope your Coach stays healthy. Wow, basketball is just a game! Did you guys hope Lute Olson would have a stroke?
I honestly do hope your coach stays healthy, all the same I am a realist. Just because his son guarantees his father is going to coach several more seasons, does not make it so.
On a side note…if UofA can’t run the table this week…I guess we will see you in the NIT. CONGRATS!

Finally…thank you ZonaWildcat.
Now all you need do is realize why you were really commenting in the first place.
In regards, to Coach being gone…I never said he wasn’t leaving. What I commented on was the sudden level of sympathy and caring coming out of AZ of all places. Besides, you may wish otherwise since The Nation could turn its eyes west and come calling for your coach.
BTW, cynicism is an unpleasant way of stating the truth.

You sir are a f**king idiot!
All I ever stated was the fact that you had a hall of fame coach, just like we did, who’s health is getting worse, like Lute Olson’s, and how Calhoun’s son is guaranteeing his return, just like Lute’s son. Dejavu!
Did I ever mention anything about recruits? To be honest I never though you were truly in the running for ANY of these top recruits. Too many uncertainties with your coach. Hell he missed almost half the regular season and one NCAA game last year. Red flags everywhere on that one!
The only reason why I ever posted anything, is because like I said; its Dejavu and all us fans at Arizona just went through that, that’s all!
Good luck with your coaching search!

I’m a f**king idiot? That’s damn funny. Your last post should have been your first you transparent pussy.

You retarded? I think you are! Reread my posts jackass!
So again, good luck with your coaching search!

I must be to continue this thread…but…since you are such a stupid douchebag and apparently need things spelled out to you I will continue…in your initial comment you said, “These recruits who are committing to UCONN right now want to know they will be playing for Calhoun for the next 4 years, otherwise its harder for a recruit to go somewhere when they are not even sure who will replace Calhoun when the time comes”.
If that is not talking about recruits then I don’t know what is! Just because you sandwich it between statements of false sympathy and respect for the coach of one of the teams you are recruiting against doesn’t mean you didn’t say it.
What you implied , and what I originally called you on, was that you feel recruits would be better served looking elsewhere…which may be a valid point….one that I don’t agree with but a point nonetheless…too bad you are such a coward that you can’t own up to it.

HallBall / March 12, 2010
Why do you Arizona boneheads keep comparing Lute Olson and Jim Calhoun, you guys are still bitter about him leaving get over It! Damn, now every coach that Is rumored to be retiring is gonna get that ” He’s gonna leave you just like Lute did us” speech shut up already.
