Nova’s Stokes Issued Citation

Villanova junior guard Corey Stokes was issued a citation for public urination early Thursday morning.

Stokes was urinating between two parked cars at about 3 a.m. while surrounded by several teammates when a Lower Merion police car pulled up. The incident occurred outside a bar down the street from the Villanova campus after the Wildcats beat South Florida, 74-49.

“He got a summary offense for disorderly conduct,” said a source with direct knowledge of the situation.

Stokes was not arrested and will have to pay a fine, the source said.

“This was a simple mistake by a college student,” Villanova coach Jay Wright said in a statement. “Corey regrets it and has apologized for it. We will now deal with it within our basketball family.”

Sources said Stokes was expected to play in Saturday’s nationally televised game at Syracuse (9 p.m., ESPN).

Syracuse and Villanova have both secured first-round byes in the Big East tournament beginning March 9 at Madison Square Garden.

A junior from Bayonne, N.J., Stokes is averaging 9.1 points and 4.0 rebounds.

  • Personally I don’t think that this is a big deal at all. It’s not like he was exposing himself in a sexual manor. Any man who tries to say that they have never done anything like this before is a liar! But what I find funny is that if this had happened to a KU player like S.Collins or a UK player like Cousins or Wall this thread would already be a mile long with comments that contained words like “thug”, “criminal”, and “slime ball”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not criticizing Zagoria for posting this. He is a sports reporter and this is in fact noteworthy. In the year that I have been reading his site, I have to say that he has always been fair in dealing with these matters. He always sticks to that facts and never interjecting his personal feelings, and I appreciate that. I just think it is very interesting how and when people CHOOSE to be outraged.

  • I find it more ridiculous that somehow you mentioned UK and KU in a post that has nothing to do with either program. It seems to be a theme of the reply section here.

  • I don’t think GasCan was being critical of either program. I agree that the top programs are lightning rods when associated with news items like the one posted by Adam Z. Unfair, but that’s the price of success.

As for Mr. Stokes; been there my friend. Not planned, just necessary.

For worse or better, I’ve never done this. I’m sure there are plenty of other men, who have also not done this.

Unfortunately for the young man, several large African-American young men standing around at 3 AM outside of a bar on the lily-white Main Line are going to stick out to police officers in the area.
