DePaul University announced Monday that Jerry Wainwright is no longer the men’s basketball coach and assistant coach Tracy Webster will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

“At this time a change needed to be made in the direction of the men’s basketball program at DePaul University,” DePaul AD Jean Lenti Ponsetto said. “We are very grateful to Coach Wainwright for his service to our student-athletes and our University community. He provided unwavering leadership in assisting our student-athletes in both their academic and personal growth. He was instrumental in helping to solidify our infrastructure by improving our staffing, our budget and our facilities.”

The Chicago Tribune first reported the news Sunday night and earlier reported that Wainwright suffered an MCL tear and a fractured tibia during a sideline collision Wednesday at Villanova.

Tennessee’s 76-68 victory Sunday over previously unbeaten Kansas was huge not only for the program and the university, but for recruiting as well.

Tobias Harris, a 6-8 forward from Long Island ranked No. 1 among power forwards by Rivals, watched the game with his entire family in their Dix Hill, N.Y. home.

“A great win for the program!” Harris, who has signed with Tennessee, wrote by text.

“Just very happy for us to get that win because I knew it was happening all along.”

Harris chose Tennessee over a slew of big-time programs, including Syracuse, Kentucky, Louisville and West Virginia.

Baltimore (Md.) Lake Clifton guard Josh Selby is currently on his official visit to Arizona and was having dinner with the staff on Saturday night.

The No. 2 point guard in the Class of 2010, Selby is coming off a 27-point outing in his team’s 64-25 victory over Mervo on Friday.

The 6-3 Selby decommitted from Tennessee and is now making the rounds before a spring signing.

He will visit Kansas (Feb. 13-14), UConn (Feb. 28) and Kentucky (March 7-8).

Syracuse and Indiana are also in the mix.

Michael Gilchrist, the No. 1 junior in the nation out of Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick High School, will miss approximately two weeks with a right knee strain after his MRI results came back negative Friday.

The 6-foot-7 Gilchrist could miss the Celtics’ nationally televised game against Findlay (Nev.) Prep  Jan. 18 in the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass. St. Pat’s and Findlay are ranked 2 and 3, respectively, in the latest PrepNation.com poll.

“It’s most likely around two weeks, give or take several days depending on how the rehab goes,” St. Patrick coach Kevin Boyle said.

“It was a strain, not a tear. It’s bruised, not torn.”
