PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Greg Echenique is considering a list of five schools when he finally leaves Rutgers.

Indiana, Creighton, Miami, Maryland and Georgia Tech are on the list for the 6-foot-9, 270-pound Echenique, who announced last week he was transferring from Rutgers.

“[It’s] always tough when a piece of the puzzle isn’t with you,” Rutgers coach Fred Hill said Tuesday after practice. “We certainly appreciate everything he did for our program. We certainly support him. He made a personal family decision to move on. I’ve always supported my players and if that’s what’s in his best interest, he moved on. And now we’re going to move forward.

Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl says that the three players suspended indefinitely for weapons and drug charges could return this season, and that their fates could be known this week.

“All three of them [Cameron Tatum, Brian Williams and Melvin Goins] do have a chance to come back and join the basketball team this year,” Pearl told “Courtside With Seth Davis” on CBS College Sports.

“I think perhaps by the end of this week we’ll have enough information to know when exactly they will return.

Pearl said senior swing Tyler Smith was dismissed because his actions justified it.

Oak Hill Academy guard Doron Lamb enjoyed his weekend visit to Arizona but says he likely won’t decide on a school until April.

“It was nice when I went out there,” the 6-foot-4 Lamb said Monday by phone. “It was hot. The team was good. I like the campus and everything and all that. I’m thinking about going there.”

Lamb saw the Wildcats fall to Washington State, 78-76, Friday night.

“They lost to Washington State on a buzzer-beater,” he said.

NEWARK — Seton Hall had three of the top juniors in the New York metropolitan area on hand Saturday when it beat Cincinnati, 83-76, for its first Big East win of the season.

Sterling Gibbs, a point guard out of Seton Hall Prep pictured at left, Myles Mack of Paterson (N.J.) Catholic and Tyler Harris of Half Hollow (N.Y.) Hills West were all behind the Pirates bench at the Prudential Center.

“It was a good game,” Mack said. “Seton Hall pulled it out. I love the atmosphere but when the student body gets back it’s going to be better.”

The 5-10 Mack has not officially been offered yet by Seton Hall, but sources said head coach Bobby Gonzalez planned to offer him. He has led Paterson Catholic to a Top 10 ranking nationally.

Asked if he had any favorites, Mack said, “Not really, no favorites.”

Don’t expect Tracy McGrady to end up in a Knicks uniform this season.

That’s what Rockets GM Daryl Morey told Marc Berman of the New York Post.

“There might not be a fit with New York because their goals don’t necessarily meet our goals,” Morey told the paper. “I think they like him but there’s an issue of fit.”

McGrady, who has an attractive expiring contract worth $23 million, is currently working out in Chicago.
