Jack Talks ‘Zona Visit; Gibbs Visiting Maryland

Kadeem Jack enjoyed his Arizona visit and is flying back to New York Friday afternoon to compete in the SNY Invitational at LIU-Brooklyn.

“It was great,” the 6-foot-9 Rice High School senior said by phone from the airport. “We saw the campus. We went to the [Stanford] game [won by Arizona, 76-68, on Thursday]. I stayed in the locker room with the players.”

Arizona features two New York-area players in Lamont “Momo” Jones and Kevin Parrom.

“I didn’t really know them but we got a chance to talk a little bit. We bonded a little bit,” said Jack, who visited with his mother, Louisa Hall.

“They said it’s a great school. It will be a great environment for me to come to even though it’s a little far.”

Even though Arizona is on the West Coast, Jack said: “During the game I could see myself playing there so it’s not really that far.”

Arizona head coach Sean Miller and assistant Book Richardson are involved with Jack, as well as guards Josh Selby and Doron Lamb.

Jack also could play alongside Arizona freshman Derrick Williams, a Pac-10 Rookie of the Year candidate who is currently playing the post instead of his natural power forward/wing spot.

“[Miller] told me if come in and keep working hard I could play a major role in the team’s success next year,” Jack said.

Jack is also involved with  Arkansas, UCLA, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Providence, UConn, Seton Hall and St. John’s.

He won’t take any other visits until after Rice’s season.

“I don’t have anything planned,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tom Konchalski says Jack may well be the best player in New York City right now.

“He’s playing out of his mind,” Konchalski said. “He might be the best player in New York City. When Rice played at Loughlin, he was the best player on the floor unequivocally. He had 24 points, 20 rebounds and 6 blocks. He was a human highlight. He was all over the court and he guarded [Villanova commit] JayVaughn Pinkston and he couldn’t catch the ball on the wing.”

Jack and Rice meet Boys & Girls Friday night at 8 on SNY, following Cardozo-Long Island Lutheran at 6.

I’ll be on TV between games of the doubleheader at around 7:30 or 8…so check it out.

GIBBS TO VISIT MARYLAND

Seton Hall Prep junior point guard Sterling Gibbs will visit Maryland for the North Carolina game Feb. 7 in College Park, Md.

“I plan on visiting Maryland for their game against North Carolina,” Gibbs wrote by text.

Gibbs also plans to visit Florida but hasn’t set a date yet.

“But I will visit Florida,” he said.

Gibbs is also considering Seton Hall, Providence, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Rutgers, Villanova and Wake Forest. His older brother, Ashton, is a sophomore at Pitt.

“I’m still wide open with my recruiting,” he said.

  • Thanks for the update Zags! I love the quotes:

“It will be a great environment for me” & “During the game I could see myself playing there” … sounds like a commitment might come soon.

    Sean Miller is the MAN!

  • Good Stuff AZ,

With Tom K. saying he is the Best Player in NYC, it sure would benefit Arizona.

DWill had a very simliar senior HS year, in the West.
And DWill is having a great freshman season.

We can see K.Jack with a monster freshman season.
    Plenty of time to develope.

    Note:
The 2010 Three Amigos would be something.

  • It would be something Jessie…… something on the Imaginary plane of existence.

  • Oh jessie, how we love you, but how can arizona have those 3 amigos when they already have daniel bejarano committed and only 3 scholies available?

  • Miami assistant Jorge Fernandez is here at the SNY Invite in Brooklyn looking at Kadeem Jack in the 2nd game.
