T-Mac to Knicks Not a Good Fit

Don’t expect Tracy McGrady to end up in a Knicks uniform this season.

That’s what Rockets GM Daryl Morey told Marc Berman of the New York Post.

“There might not be a fit with New York because their goals don’t necessarily meet our goals,” Morey told the paper. “I think they like him but there’s an issue of fit.”

McGrady, who has an attractive expiring contract worth $23 million, is currently working out in Chicago.

The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 19 and Morey said he expects something to happen by then.

“I think there’s a deal to be done, probably at the deadline,” Morey said. “Teams don’t generally move early, especially on one this big. I think there’s enough interest from enough teams who either like McGrady or are looking to save money.”

Berman sites a source indicating Morey is looking for youth in exchange for McGrady, but the Knicks can only offer rookies Toney Douglas and Jordan Hill, neither of whom Houston wants.

The Knicks plan to hold on to young players Danillo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler as part of their future plans, but are reportedly shopping Jared Jeffries. Larry Hughes, currently out of the Knicks’ rotation, and Al Harrington, whom Berman reports may miss Monday’s game with Oklahoma City because of his calf injury, could also be used as trade chips.

**Finally, Alan Hahn of Newsday reported on his blog that Berman beat Hahn, Frank Isola of the Daily News and Jonathan Abrams of The New York Times in a halfcourt shooting contest in an empty gym in Houston.

I’m sure those guys will never hear the end of it.
