Here’s an interesting stat from The New York Times in the wake of St. John’s 72-60 victory over Hofstra Sunday in the Holiday Festival. The Johnnies will face Cornell Monday night in the title game at 9:30.

This is a list of the New York-area programs with the most victories this decade:

1. Hofstra – 188

2. Manhattan – 172

3(t). Seton Hall – 165

3(t). Rider – 165

5. Wagner – 154

6. St. John’s -151

BIG EAST NEWCOMERS RESULTS

Last week I previewed the newcomers to Big East action would join their teams mid-season. Here’s a quick look at how they fared. And if you haven’t read Kevin Armstrong’s piece on UConn’s Ater Majok in the Times, we recommend it.

Ater Majok, UConn: 1 point, 3 rebounds in win over Central Florida

Reggie Redding, Villanova: 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks in win over Fordham

Keon Lawrence, Seton Hall: 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 blocks in loss to Temple

Jeff  Robinson, Seton Hall: 5 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks in loss to Temple

  • Credit for that list of New York area programs and their number of wins has to go to Hofstra’s athletic department, who had that information on their press release touting their area superiority.
