Nova’s Yarou Out With Hepatitis-B; UCLA’s Gordon Transferring

Villanova freshman forward Mouphtaou Yarou has tested positive for the Hepatitis B virus and is out indefinitely.

The 6-foot-10 Yarou, a native of the West African nation of Benin, is being treated under the supervision of team physician Dr. Frank Furman.

“We are disappointed for Mouph,” Villanova head coach Jay Wright said in a statement. “We know that he is receiving great care from Dr. Furman and some of the best specialists in this field. Mouph’s health is our foremost concern.”

Yarou was sent home from the Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Nov. 19 because of the ailment and underwent a battery of tests Nov. 24 at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia.

Yarou started Villanova’s first two games this season, averaging 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in wins over Fairleigh Dickinson and Penn but has not played since.

He could potentially redshirt this season because he would have played in less than 20 percent of  the Wildcats’ games.

UCLA’S GORDON TRANSFERRING

UCLA center Drew Gordon is transferring.

“This is not a spur-of-the-moment thing,” UCLA Coach Ben Howland said, according to the Los Angeles Times .

Gordon was a starter averaging 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds in 23-plus minutes a game.

The news follows UCLA’s disappointing finish at the 76 Classic in Anaheim, where it lost all three games, including losses to Portland and Long Beach State.

  • AZ,

    Good stuff about ucla.

In LA LA land , the world is FALLING APART , with ucla.

Hearing that Ben was COMPLETELY SHOCKED by the news.

From the start, it was not a good fit between Ben’s SLOW, defensive minded approach and Gordon’s skill sets.
NOT a good match at all.

Not sure which TWO schools battle for Gordon, during the HS recruitment process?
But, I would not be surprise if the other school reaches out.
It was a MAJOR recruiting battle in the West coast for Gordon.
Real bloody battle, back in the day.

The call from Miller is being made.

    I’m just saying.

  • AZ,

The transfer appears to be another red flag for ucla.

Several weeks ago, the WEST began debating – What is wrong with UCLA?

    The WHEELS started coming off…….
It started with 8 players getting injuried in the first ~4 days of practice.
Then, it continued with those expected losses such as Cal State Fullerton- “Junior College “(in double OT.)

And then the losses this pass weekend.
The icing was the loss to Long Beach State -JC

The worse team in S.Cal appears to be ucla.

Thee r maybe more news coming…..?

  • Jessie, does he lose a year if he goes to another school in the Pac 10? I’m pretty it works that way in the Big 12.

If that’s the case I think it’s highly unlikely that he transfers to UA.

  • Woody,

Someone in LA LA land did not want to sign an exception waiver.

Also hearing that there maybe another Transfer.

    Truthful-Lee

ucla is having a horrible, horrible season. And Ben is know going to use a Zone defense (white flag).

I say Kansas wins ucla by 40 pts.
