Melvin to UConn

Cleveland Melvin, a 6-8, 200-pound forward from Notre Dame Prep, has committed to UConn, according to Notre Dame Prep coach Ryan Hurd.

Melvin, an East Baltimore, Md., chose UConn over Seton Hall and DePaul. South Florida and TCU also offered.

“A 6-8 kid that can move like he can, you gotta take a commitment from him,” Hurd said. “What their intrigued by is his athleticism. The kid flies around the floor and attacks the rim. We’re working on developing his perimeter game to the arc. He’s got a decent game to 16 feet or so. We want to get him out another three feet. That’s really going to make him a threat.”

Melvin joins 6-9 C Michael Bradley of Chattanooga, Tenn., and 6-4 SG Jeremy Lamb of Norcross, Ga., in UConn’s 2010 recruiting class.
