Today is a busy day for Tobias Harris and his family.
After hosting in-home visits with John Calipari of Kentucky, Paul Hewitt of Georgia Tech and Mike Brey of Notre Dame in recent days, the 6-foot-8 Harris and his family will host Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim and Louisville’s Rick Pitino today.
Both Syracuse and Louisville are considered serious contenders for Harris, the No. 5 prospect in the Class of 2010.
UConn coach Jim Calhoun was supposed to come to Long Island, too, but Tobias said he “is not coming because of the Hall of Fame thing.”
Tobias later said UConn probably wouldn’t end up coming in for a visit, “but they are still in.” He has already visited the school unofficially.
Calhoun is also supposed to host a visit from 6-11 Andre Drummond of St. Thomas More in Oakdale, Conn., the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2012.
“Everybody’s looking at the kid. I guess he’s the No.1 ranked sophomore in the country,” St. Thomas More coach Jere Quinn said.
“He’s 6-11 with a 7-6 wingspan who can run and catch everything. He’s just a young kid whose potential is limitless.”
IRVING IMPRESSED WITH COACH K
Kyrie Irving had some good things to say about Duke after an in-home visit earlier this week with Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski and assistants Chris Collins and Nate James.
Kentucky coach John Calipari is working hard on the recruiting trail up here in New York City.
On Thursday night, Calipari and his staff met with the parents of Oak Hill (Va.) guard Doron Lamb, and on Wednesday they met with Dix Hills (N.Y.) Half Hollow Hills West forward Tobias Harris and his family.
“It was great,” said Calvin Lamb, Doron’s father. “They met with me and my wife.
“Basically [they talked about] how it would benefit my son to go there. The way they play fits his style. They say he’s a combo guard. He’s a strong combo guard. He plays both.”
Calvin said Calipari expressed strong interest in Lamb, the No. 3 shooting guard and No. 21 prospect in the Class of 2010. Doron was at Oak Hill and not the meeting.
Joe Jackson will commit to Memphis today at 6:30 on the Memphis campus.
“Yes, he is,” Memphis White Station coach Jesus Patino said by phone.
“I think he’s just a home kid. He’s born and raised here. He really likes the city, likes everything about being home. Even when we go on trips he can wait to go home.”
Jackson, who chose the Tigers over Kansas and Tennessee, will join fellow 2010 guard Will Barton of Brewster (N.H.) Academy to form a tremendously strong backcourt for head coach Josh Pastner beginning next season.
The 5-foot-11 Jackson is the No. 5 point guard and No. 12 overall player in the Class of 2010, according to Rivals.
