UConn Finally Brokering Calhoun Deal

A source close to UConn coach Jim Calhoun says the coach is shocked at how long it has taken the school to begin negotiating terms of a new multiyear deal.

“They have not been in a rush to get it done,” the source said, referring to UConn officials.

UConn spokesman Kyle Muncy said Tuesday that the two sides have been in discussions for some time, and that Calhoun has expressed a desire to continue coaching at the school.

The source said the two sides “were looking at four, maybe five [years]” for the extension.

MARSHALL TO BUTLER

Khyle Marshall, a 6-7, 215-pound combo forward from Pembroke Pines (Fla.) Flanagan, committed to Butler over Old Dominion and Alabama-Birmingham.

Marshall averaged 26 points and 12.5 last season and was the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s large school player of the year. He is the No.113 prospect in the class of 2010, according to Rivals.

“He loves that place [Butler]. He just flat out loves the place,” said Marshall’s coach, Alberto Jempierre.

“It came down to Butler, Old Dominion and UAB,” he added. “He took three visits. Vanderbilt, Missouri and UNLV tried to come in late after him. But he stayed with the schools recruiting him the longest. He chose to go to Butler.”

How come nothing on what Weiss and Katz are reporting in regards to UCONN possible NCAA troubles………..

The Huskies are currently under NCAA investigation for possible ties to a former student manager turned agent Josh Nochimson and his involvement with former Huskies’ player Nate Miles, who enrolled in school but was dismissed in October before he ever played. The AP is reporting NCAA investigators may not have enough evidence to deliver a notice of the allegations – Wiess

The Huskies are currently under an NCAA investigation because of possible ties to former agent and student manager Josh Nochimson and his involvement with former UConn student-athlete Nate Miles, who never played for the Huskies and was dismissed from school in October of 2008.

The NCAA has yet to issue the university a notice of allegations. It remains unclear if or when the NCAA’s enforcement staff will have enough evidence to deliver a notice of allegations. – Katz

    Y! Hacks should be fired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anyone that thinks the NCAA will hit UConn with sanctions is living in a fantasy world. I just don’t see it happening. I’m not saying whether or not it’s deserved, just don’t see it happening.
