I went to see U2 last night at Giants Stadium with three high school buddies and my wife, Jen. Tremendous show with a record 82,000 fans in the house. We were up in the 300s section but because of this gigantic sound system that looked like something out of a Steven Spielberg movie, you could see the video and hear the audio very well, even from near the top of the stadium.
Bono payed homage to Bruce Springsteen (on his 60th B-day), Michael Jackson and The Beatles, as seen here in this “He’s The One” ode to Bruce.
New Jersey Transit and Meadowlands officials get an ‘F’ for their handling of the transportation disaster. We waited in a huge line, with thousands of others, that took nearly 2 hours before we got a train back to the Big City. Booo…..

Zags, you are easy to please. I was at last night’s show and it was just OK. I saw AC/DC in July and they blew this away.
I had seats in the lower tier Row 8-Sec 135 (think side of the end zone seats). I thought that with the unique stage set-up you’d have a good view of the band from anywhere in the house. Instead all the stage did was creat more seating behind the band. For the most part they faced the east end of the stadium, and save a few token appearances to the back, you were looking at the band from behind most of the night.
Good idea. BAD execution.
I was also disappointed in the set list. Part of this is just because the stuff on the new album is mediocre by U2 standards, but also too many of the songs were U2’s slow/mellow stuff. For example, Stuck In A Moment, MLK, One, With Or Without You. A couple of times people sat down and were waiting for a classic U2 song to come on.
The encore was also disappointing. Moment of Surrender to end the night? WTF?
They didn’t play Pride, I Will Follow, Gloria or Bullet The Blue Sky. Not even to end the night.
Bad deal.
I left the show thinking it was so-so. Couple that with the disappointment in the stage set-up and, honestly, I can’t recommend seeing them.
