Knight to UConn for Visit, May Decide Late

Fresh off a Wednesday workout for some of the top schools in the nation at Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest, Brandon Knight is headed to UConn this weekend for his second official visit.

“They’re going to Connecticut this weekend,” said Pine Crest coach Dave Beckerman, referring to Knight’s family.

UConn head coach Jim Calhoun will be busy this week since he’s also visiting with Tobias Harris tonight (Thursday) in Harris’ Long Island home.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Knight is the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2010. He visited Kentucky last weekend, and Beckerman said he believed Knight was planning to go to Kansas Oct. 16 for “Late Night in the Phog.”

Knight’s list includes Kentucky, UConn, Kansas, Syracuse, Miami and Florida.

Asked if there was a favorite, Beckerman said: “I think he’s open. I don’t think there is any favorite at this point.”

On Wednesday, Calhoun, Miami coach Frank Haith, Syracuse assistant Bernie Fine, and Kansas assistant Joe Dooley were on hand, as was Yale head coach James Jones and UMass-Lowell coach Greg Herenda.

Kansas head coach Bill Self was originally going to come but was delayed because of the incidents on campus, Beckerman said.

Knight is still recovering from a stress fracture and participated in a limited workout.

“Brandon was there,” Beckerman said. “He did a few drills, did some layups, ran up and down. He had just gotten cleared the day before. He’s OK to play.”

Knight has had home visits from UConn, Kentucky, Florida, Kansas and Syracuse.

Yale’s Jones is hanging in there because Knight is qualified to go to the Ivy League school and he hopes he has a shot.

“Yale is very smart,” Beckerman said. “James Jones understands this could be a long shot but the kid is qualified to go to Yale.”

As for Herenda, Beckerman said he had a prior relationship with Knight.

Beckerman reiterated that Knight may not decide on a school until the late signing period in the spring.

“They were going to consider a variety of different issues and some of those issues they couldn’t decide,” he said.

“He wanted to know how the teams are doing this season, who the recruits were, all the natural things that a young student-athlete would look at.

He added: “This is a decision Brandon’s going to have to make on his own.”

  • AZ,

We are having one of the biggest dog and pony shows with THOSE FIVE violations.

Can this be up stagged? YES.

    The Kansas BrawlHawks University.

Lets say that Pandoras Box has been opened.
Talk about an university keeping ALL those Kansas fights QUITE and for SO MANY years.
    Police did nothing ,for YEARS.
Newspaper failed to properly cover the FIGHTs.
Univ. of Kansas President did NOTHING effective for YEARS.
Kansas AD did nothing effective for YEARS.
Kansas coach did NOTHING effective for YEARS.

What we have is a concept called “acceptable TOLERANCE”.
At Kansas, if you want to FIGHT – it is acceptable.
You will not get into trouble because everyone is use to FIGHTING.
Athletics are reguired to take a Fight class, BOX101.
There is a certain level of understanding.
It is like…ONE is already conditioned into expecting brawls.
    From an anonymous source…former player.
““It’s escalated really bad now, but it’s always been there.”
“This is Kansas. This happens every year”.

**I can just imagine the Kansas pitch as a RECRUIT t comes to visit:
The escort says….And here at Jay Towers , YOU should expect to see and be apart of AT LEAST ONE FIGHT. Always have your guard up and make sure you have a buddy with you. “YES, THEY WILL JUMP YOU.”….right coach Selfy

    COME ON …section:

    Come on LEW.
    YOU are better than this.
Do YOU honestly believe that we would forget about last spring…
“last spring, when a fight between members of the two programs began at a campus bar and moved to Jayhawker Towers”…

It appears that LEW, and Selfy efforts for the LAST years have NOT worked.
    So, WHAT is next Lew?

    MAJOR , MAJOR ACTIONS.
Expect PLAYERS to be kicked off the team….GIVEN…..
    And what else….

    PS-
    Come on Police?
    Sorry,no police required ..
.Univ. says it was not serious enough Does not warrant law authorities.
No broken bones…no police needed. (Dislocaton – GRAY area.)

Kansas Jayhawk University has been completely embarrassed and should be ashamed.

  • AZ,

I’ve been getting five different accounts as to what happend at Kansas University Fight Club.

And each story is getting worse and worse.
We know that the Kansas Fight Club did have THREE BIG FIGHTS…a;; THREE happened at different times.

There were MORE than THREE FIGHTS?

How far up does this “acceptable tolerance” belief go?
All the way up to the chancellor!

    WHERE is the NEWS conference?
Coverup is NO LONGER an option.

Cover UP is not an option.
    ——————————
    Time to MAN UP!

Nobody from the KU athletic department stepped in front of a TV camera to apologize for athletes embarrassing the entire university and by extension the entire state of Kansas.

This serious situation calls for either Lew or the new chancellor, Bernadette Gray-Little.
The chancellor issued a written statement.
It was WEAK. Cowardly to say the least.
Lame would have been a better word…

It would have been so much more MANLY for Lew or Gray-Little taken questions- from the media during a live press conference.

    MAN UP.
    MAN UP.

Do the crime. Do the time.
