Knight Enjoyed Kentucky, 6 Schools in Mix

Turgenia Knight, the mother of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Pine Crest guard Brandon Knight, says the family loved last weekend’s official visit to Kentucky and that six schools are in the mix for her son.

“The Kentucky visit was wonderful,” she said by phone.

“It was a very nice, kind of informal visit, to be honest. It was a relaxed visit.”

Asked if she got the impression that Brandon was a top priority for Kentucky coach John Calipari, Turgenia said, “Yes, I did.”

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Knight is the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2010, according to Rivals.

He is recovering from a stress fracture and is supposed to have a light work out Wednesday for the schools recruiting him, according to the New Haven Register.

The family is supposed to travel to UConn this coming weekend for Brandon’s second official visit.

“It’s supposed to be this week,” she said. “Supposed to but not definite. It depends on how my health is doing.”

Knight’s list includes Kentucky, UConn, Miami, Florida, Kansas and Syracuse.

“All the home visits are pretty much done,” Turgenia said.

Knight may take officials to several other schools, but no dates have yet been set.

“Yes, we’re going to visit but I’m not exactly sure when,” she said.

As for a timetable on deciding, she said: “When Brandon visits the schools and gets to go on campus and gets a feel on campus. When he feels in his heart where he’s most comfortable.”

Dave Beckerman, Knight’s coach at Pine Crest, says Knight may not decide until the spring.

“I don’t think he’s going to commit early,” Beckerman told the New Haven Register. “There are a lot of variables . He’ll look at who else commits to schools, how the team does, what’s coming back, and see where he fits in.”

  • All you need to do is make a visit to Kansas and you will realize instantly how much of a difference there is between the all mighty KU and the bleak and bare area of Lexington. UK may have claimed the Sports Arena War title on cbssports.com, but when a player steps into Allen Fieldhouse. It’s all over!

  • Brandon Knight to Kentucky is a done deal. Bought and paid for by WWW.

  • So how many basketballs do they use at Kentucky? Do all these guys believe they’ll be lottery picks?

  • OldTerp, i was thinking the same thing…
UK will have to score 200 points a game to get all these guys the touches/shots they want. somethings gotta give

  • However, keep the KU football and basketball players separated when the new recruits visit the campus.

  • Cal dosn’t really recruit anymore…….he reviews 5 star applications ….they all want to play for the top coach in America . The guy who will put them in the lottery . Ky. will dominate basketball for many years now…… freight train headed your way Cal haters .

I don’t hate Calipari or UK – just saying that many HS stars are used to being the main man on the team and all probably think they should be lottery picks. I know you’ve said in the past that they all want to play for him to become better players; I just believe they already think they’re ready for the NBA.

So – do you still root for Memphis?
