Mike Glover hasn’t played an organized basketball game since early 2007.

So you’ll forgive him if he’s a little excited, and a little nervous, about his team’s upcoming scrimmages Oct. 10.

That’s when Glover and his teammates from the College of Eastern Utah will meet Western Wyoming Community College and an all-star team in two games at the University of Utah.

“In 10 days is my first college scrimmage game so I’m pretty excited bout that,” Glover said by phone from Price, Utah, where he is in his second year at Eastern Utah.

Glover, the younger brother of former St. John’s standout Anthony Glover, committed to St. Francis of New York after visiting the school this past weekend. Assuming he graduates from Eastern Utah, he will join that team in 2010.

A source close to UConn coach Jim Calhoun says the coach is shocked at how long it has taken the school to begin negotiating terms of a new multiyear deal.

“They have not been in a rush to get it done,” the source said, referring to UConn officials.

UConn spokesman Kyle Muncy said Tuesday that the two sides have been in discussions for some time, and that Calhoun has expressed a desire to continue coaching at the school.

The source said the two sides “were looking at four, maybe five [years]” for the extension.

MARSHALL TO BUTLER

Khyle Marshall, a 6-7, 215-pound combo forward from Pembroke Pines (Fla.) Flanagan, committed to Butler over Old Dominion and Alabama-Birmingham.

Brandon Knight, the top prospect in the nation out of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Pine Crest, enjoyed his weekend visit to UConn and will visit several other schools before deciding — potentially in the spring.

“He had a good visit,” Pine Crest coach Dave Beckerman said Tuesday by phone before he took off for Italy for two weeks.

“He respects a great deal the UConn progmam and what they have done to develop kids to get to the pro ranks, which is an objective of his.”

Fresh off his in-home visit Monday night with Seton Hall head coach Bobby Gonzalez and assistant coaches Derm Player and Scott Adubato, Devon Collier says he will take five official visits.

“The schools I will visit are Providence, Seton Hall, Oregon State, St. John’s and probably Maryland,” the 6-foot-8, 210-pound Collier said Tuesday by phone from St. Anthony.

“I don’t have any favorite. I’m still open,” he added.

Collier, the No. 25 power forward and No. 134 senior prospect according to Rivals, confirmed that Rutgers was no longer on his list. He has yet to set any dates for taking officials.
