NEWPORT, R.I. -- It was Easter Week
Jeremy Tyler, the 6-foot-11 high school senior out of San Diego High, will likely sign a contract next week with Maccabi Haifa of the Israeli Premier League
“They’re the favorites,” Sonny Vaccaro, who is advising Tyler, said by phone. “It looks like Jeremy Tyler is going to end up with Maccabi Haifa. It’s 90 percent done.
“The contract has not been signed yet. As soon as they do the faxes back and forth, it should be done Tuesday or Wednesday.”
Maccabi Haifa finished second in the Israel Premier League last year and also features Davon Jefferson, the former USC forward.

Thanks to Chris Rivers and Kristen Wise of adidas, I just checked in via the Batphone with a few players from the adidas nations event in Dallas.
The U.S. 2010 team is undefeated at 3-0 with victories over USA 2011, Latin America and Africa.
Here are some quick updates on Brandon Knight, Marquis Teague and Cory Joseph.
The top-ranked player in the Class of 2010, Knight is not playing at adidas nations, only watching, because of a broken right foot suffered at the Peach Jam.
“I’m still in a cast right now, I’m still recovering,” Knight said.
As far as colleges, Kansas, Connecticut, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Miami and Syracuse are all on his radar, but he hasn’t yet formulated a list.
“I don’t have a list yet, but I plan on narrowing it down soon,” Knight said. “Me and my parents haven’t really discussed it yet, but I’m sure we will sooner or later.”
I’m working on a feature on Ryan D’Imperio that will come out next week on SNY.tv. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound D’Imperio will start at middle LB for Rutgers this season and head coach Greg Schiano expects big things from him.
“He’s got an opportunity to be as good a linebacker as there is out there,” the coach said.
D’Imperio amassed 93 tackles (12.5 for loss), 5.5 sacks, one INT and two fumble recoveries last season.
While D’Imperio will anchor the defense in the middle, senior Damaso Munoz will likely start at strongside LB. Munoz started four of the final five games last year and finished with 45 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one INT.
