'You've been telling me you were a genius since you were 17'

Enjoyed a tremendous New York City night last night…Made it back from Rutgers football practice — where I wrote this story on the RU quarterback competition — in time to meet my wife and go for a roller blade in Central Park on a nice summer night. Then we grabbed a quick slice of pizza and made it over to the Beacon Theatre on 74th St. to see Steely Dan live. The Beacon is the best and most beautiful venue in NYC to see a show and I was really looking forward to Steely Dan.

Already this summer we’ve seen Springsteen and Jackson Browne, but I’d never seen Donald Fagen and Walter Becker live…These guys are incredibly talented (especially Fagen) and we had great seats on the floor. They played the whole Royal Scam album and then went off on a number of favorites including “Peg,” “My Old School,” “Black Friday,” “Hey 19,” and “Reelin in the Years.”
