Player Profile: 2011 Derrick Randall

PHILLY — Derrick Randall is a 6-foot-9 rising junior at Paterson (N.J.) Catholic who is garnering a lot of interest from Big East schools.

Randall said he is hearing from DePaul, Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Providence, Villanova, VCU and Virginia Tech.

Asked at the recent Reebok All-American Camp who was showing him the most love, Randall said, “Rutgers.”

Asked if he had a favorite, Randall said, “Not right now. I’ve got to keep doing my research on schools and play harder. I’ve got to go to some Rutgers games and see how they play.”

Randall transferred to PC last year from Adelphi Academy in Brooklyn. He now lives with his aunt in Fort Lee, N.J.

He helped the Cougars win the Passaic County championship last season and will be a key factor this year as PC shoots for a repeat.

The Cougars will lose Jayon James to prep school (his father says it’s either St. Thomas More, The Hun School or Lawrence Mass. Academy), but return Seton Hall-bound forward Fuquan Edwin, wing Jermaine Peart and talented guards Myles Mack and Kyle Anderson.

“We’re still going to be a good team,” Randall said.
