Lamb Says Kentucky Among Favorites; Marshall, Gilchrist Honored at Top 100 Camp

New York City star Doron Lamb says Kentucky will be among his Final Five when it comes time to take visits.

“I have a good relationship with [assistant] coach [Orlando] Antigua and [Rod] Strickland,” the 6-foot-5 Lamb told Jody Demling of the Louisville Courier Journal. “Coach [John] Calipari called me, and we talked a long time. He’s a good guy; they’ll be in my final five for sure.

“They make pros, and that’s what I want to be.”

Lamb left Bishop Loughlin before last season and now plays at Oak Hill Academy. He is ranked the No. 5 shooting guard in the Class of 2010.

Rivals lists him as holding offers from Arizona, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Pitt, Rutgers, St. John’s and Xavier.

FAB MELO GETTING RAVE REVIEWS

Fab Melo, the 7-foot, 260-pound center from Brazil, is drawing rave reviews.

Melo, who plays for Weston (Fla.) Sagemont Upper School, made the All-Star Game at the Top 100 Camp. He told Demling his list now consists of: Louisville, Florida, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Syracuse and Connecticut.

“I think he has gotten better and better,” Brick Oettinger of Prep Stars Recruiting Handbook told Demling. “He looks a lot more comfortable. He’s better than where we have him ranked.”

SMITH TO ANNOUNCE IN AUGUST

Russ Smith said on his Facebook page that he will likely commit in August.

“Imma prolly commit in like late august so stay tunned”

Smith, a 5-foot-10 guard from New York City who will play next year at South Kent (Conn.), lists DePaul, Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Iona, South Carolina, USC, Providence and Tennessee among his suitors.

FREE THROWS

Former Seton Hall guard Paul Gause was drafted as a defensive back by the Las Vegas franchise of the fledgling United Football league, as was former Boston College LB Brian Toal, who played at Don Bosco Prep. JP Pelzman of the Bergen Record first reported the news….Epiphanny Prince’s decision to leave Rutgers to play professionally in Europe may not have been so smart after all, according to this piece on SI.com.

  • AZ,

I hear that LAMB was the second choice for UK.
    UK priority recruit WAS Barton.
    But, lost out to Memphis….LMAO.

Does LAMB really go to a school which did not want him?
(I mean , LAMB was their second choice.)

  • Um, how many D1 teams are there? How many D1-caliber players are there? Most guys land somewhere where they were not the main target.

  • If you want to go Pro you might want to go the AZ road

  • These kids weren’t born 20 years ago ……run these stats for the past 4 years …..another example of trying to prop up has been programs with has been coaches with ancient history .

  • Pastaboy, here the stats for the last 4 years:
2008: Derrick Rose (rd. 1) Memhis
    Jerryd Barless (rd. 1) Arizona
    Joey Dorsey (rd. 2) Memphis
    Chris Douglas-Roberts (rd.2) Memphis

    2007: Marcus Williams (rd.2) Arizona

2006: Rodney Carney (rd. 1) Memphis
    Hassan Adams (rd. 2) Arizona

2005: Channing Frye (rd. 1) Arizona
    Salim Stoudemire (rd. 2) Arizona

Memphis didnt even have ANYBODY drafted in 2 of those 4 years! Pastaboy, you are a f!@#$%& idiot!!!! And quit trying to compare Maryland to Memphis…..Maryland hs a national championship you retard! Pastner is only gonna be at Memphis until the Arizona coaching job opens up again !!!!! Cant wait to see Kansas pound Memphis in Nov.

  • You left out Shawne Williams and Tyreke Evans …..looks like Memphis has 6 and Az has 5 …… these kids know how to get into the pros ….and now that Lute is gone …its not Az ……you lost Lance …you lost LW …. hope you enjoy Sean’s 5 man stand around offense next year …LOL ……

  • Oh so we ARE counting 2009!…..
add Chase Budinger & Jordan Hill !!!!! 7 to 6 you idiot!!!!!

  • Robert Dozier …projected lated 2nd round …… maybe Taggart also …8 to 7 bozo ……. my original point was that going back 20 years is a meaningless statistic in the eyes of today’s recruits …… by Az . posting all of Cal’s draftee’s at Memphis the past 4 years ….you have proven my point ….thanks . Next

  • Pastaboy is really that dumb! He says you cant go back 20 yrs with stats yet kids wanna go to schools like UNC, Kansas, UCLA, Arizona and a handful of other schools (not including Memphis) because of there history! Arizona.. Point Guard U! Kansas….NATIONALS CHAMPIONSHIPS/ NBA ! UNC….you could go on for days! Memphis….well lets see, Derrick Rose (SAT scandal), John Calipari (even he moved on to bigger better things!), and Penny hardaway (Like 20 yrs ago.),0 NBA stars *exception Derrick Rose)!!!! Sad part, on your guys remarkable 4 year run as the greatest team ever, Memphis only managed to put in the same amount of NBA draft picks as Arizona, an elite program (who by the way went through 3 coaching changes)!!!! There are more ELITE schools I didnt mention but Memphis is far from it!!!!!

  • Jordan Hill Being a top 8 Lottery pic is meaningful to recruits

  • blah blah blah ……nothing substantive ……. point guard u the last 2 years is Memphis ….. Rose and Evans ….quit living in the past and recognize that Memphis is a top national power now and Ariz. is a has been …………….. buck up boys and admit you are living in the past

  • Memphis is still a mid major

  • Coaches don’t leave “national power teams” for other jobs
