DETROIT – After trying and failing to land several bigger-name coaches,  Memphis chose a member of its own staff to be its new head coach.

Josh Pastner, an assistant to former Memphis coach John Calipari, will be introduced as the Tigers new coach at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

It remains unclear what Pastner will be paid, but the Memphis Commercial-Appeal reported that he earned a base salary of $200,000 last season as an assistant.

After Calipari accepted an eight-year, $32 million deal at Kentucky, Memphis reached

DETROIT – It looks like Arizona finally found its man.

After initially rejecting the Arizona job over the weekend, Xavier coach Sean Miller has reportedly agreed to a seven-year deal worth more than $2 million annually. He will be introduced at a Tuesday press conference.

The story was first reported by Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports Monday morning.

The move is sure to have an impact on Xavier’s recruiting class, including Kevin Parrom of South Kent (Conn.). The 6-foot-5 Parrom had no comment for the time being.

If Miller takes assistant coach Book Richardson with him, it’s possible Parrom could elect to follow.

Miller, 40, has been at Xavier for five seasons, making the NCAA Tournament four times, including a Sweet 16 loss to Pittsburgh this year in Boston. A year ago, the Musketeers made the Elite 8.

Miller reportedly made $800,000 a year at Xavier.

DETROIT – The Syracuse men’s basketball could lose Jonny Flynn, Paul Harris and Eric Devendorf to the NBA or other pro leagues, according to a source within the program.

Those three were the top three scorers for a Syracuse team that lost to Oklahoma in the Sweet 16. Flynn averaged 17.4 points, Devendorf 15.7 and Harris 12.

Harris, who has two sons, and Devendorf will put their names in for the NBA Draft and will leave for either the NBA or another pro league.

DETROIT – Xavier coach Sean Miller is the latest coaching candidate in the mix at Arizona.

Jeff Goodman of FoxSports.com reports that Miller was flown on a private plane Sunday morning to meet with Arizona AD Jim Livengood in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“By no means does this mean it’s done,” a source told Goodman.

Arizona turned to Miller after USC coach Tim Floyd flew to campus, considered it and then spurned the Wildcats.
