Harrison Barnes Drawing a Crowd

Harrison Barnes is the No. 1 small forward in the Class of 2010 and he is being courted accordingly.

During the recent recruiting period, Kentucky coach John Calipari, Kansas coach Bill Self, Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel, Iowa State coach Greg McDermott and North Carolina assistant Steve Robinson all came to watch Barnes during open gyms.

“It’s been relatively busy this spring,” said Vance Downs, Barnes’ high school coach.

Downs said the 6-foot-7 Barnes plans to take all five official visits next fall.

And what is Barnes’ upside?

“Limitless,” Downs said. “He’s as good as they come. First of all, he’s a wing player. He’s all of 6-foot-7 with the wing span of a 7-footer. He’s explosive. He’s got an inside game, an intermediate game and a perimeter game.

“His ballhandling and court vision are getting better every day and I don’t know that there’s a ceiling for this young man. He’s the real deal.”

  • Hey Arizaga,

The West Coast is all over Lance and MoMo situation.
    Blowing up , big time.

But, both players are in your back yard.

What is the latest on Lance-A-Lot as well as MoMo…

For sure, coach Smith can provide a text or so.

  • Barnes is going to face off against current 2010 SG commit Royce Woolridge on Friday in Lawrence. Should be an exciting game.

Adam, any idea which way he’s (Barnes) leaning at this point? Most reports are either KU or Duke at the top.

  • Usc.trojan. Dude you need to calm down. You have posted like 15 times today.

  • Calipari draw this cat (no pun intended) to UK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry, UKcatXXXL, but he’s either going to Duke or KU. And before we hear how great of a recruiter Cal is let’s remember that all he’s delivered to UK is Cousins (by default courtesy of UAB) and Dodson (a Juco player that was headed to Memphis–a mid-major).

  • Let’s not get to full of ourself there RockCalkWoodrow. Coach Cal did get started late in the game recruiting to UK, He did have to convince Daniel Orten and John Hood to stay on board, So that’s 2 Five Star prospects and 2 Four Star prospects. Oh yeah, did I mention we are still in on John Wall. This is all in his first MONTH on the job.We could have a potential top 5 recruiting class if not the number 1 recruiting class. Coach Cal is doing a fine job.
ENVY OUR PAST, FEAR OUR FUTURE !!!!

  • To say Barnes is a lean to one school or another is OK. However to say Barnes will either be at Duke or KU is down right hilarious. These comments usually come from those that pay very little attention to recruiting. With another year of high schoool basketball to be played, I’d say it’s a guessing game between three to five teams where Barnes inks an LOI. GO BIG BLUE

  • Rockchalk………he is only a junior……….you have no clue which school he will select. I like the UK love above as well………Calipari kept Orton and Hood at UK when both could have easily jumped ship. He’s workin hard on Wall and Bledsoe……and I’d say landing either of them would put UK’s recruiting class at #1 and I’m not the only one who feels this way!!!

-currently rivals has UK’s class at #5…….and it can only go higher

Considering how little time he has been at UK and what he has ALREADY done is an accomplishment………with lots more to come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barnes would be smart to go to UK for many reasons…….lots of exposure, excellent system, NBA fast track (if he wants it), Final Four opportunity the entire time he is enrolled………..legitimate national championship run

    Barnes…………go to UK!!!!!!!!

    nuff said……………..
