Brian Freeman to Fordham

Brian Freeman, a 6-8, 220-pound senior power forward from Potomac (VA) Potomac Falls, committed to Fordham on Thursday.

“Fordham had been in it since the beginning of his junior year,” said Potomac head coach Sean Whalen. “A lot of teams came on late after the last Eastern, but he had a really good relationship with (assistant coach) Travis Lyons and Coach (Dereck) Whittenburg.”

Freeman chose Fordham over Delaware, Siena and several other A-10 schools. St. Joe’s also became involved recently.

Freeman had 12 points when Potomac upset top-seeded Miller, 61-49, in the championship game of the Virginia Independent Schools tournament.

“He’s a phenomenal athlete,” Whalen said. “He’s a great rebounder. He has a huge upside. He’s one of the best players in the D.C. area. He led us in rebounds, blocked shots and field goal percentage.”

Freeman joins former St. Anthony standout Chris Gaston and Paterson Catholic senior wing Lance Brown in Fordham’s recruiting class for 2009. The 6-7, 205-pound Gaston has had a big summer for himself on the grassroots circuit, while the 6-3 Brown has also excelled for the New Jersey Shore Shots.
