DETROIT — Wayne Ellington knows the Michigan State basketball team is inspired by a cause.
When the Spartans take the court for tonight’s NCAA championship game at Ford Field before more than 72,000 mostly green-clad Michigan State fans, they will be playing to lift the spirits of this economically depressed city, one that has come to symbolize America’s troubled economic times.
But Ellington and his North Carolina teammates can’t worry about that.
