This Nate Miles story just keeps getting better and better.
Two days after Yahoo! Sports broke the huge story related to UConn’s alleged recruiting violations associated with Miles comes the news that Josh Nochimson paid for Miles to have surgery in Tampa.
The Tampa Tribune reports that M. Christopher MacLaren of the Tampa Bay Bone and Joint Center said he performed surgery on Miles at the Tampa Bay Surgery Center.
Here’s an excerpt:
Citing HIPAA laws, MacLaren would not disclose what surgery was performed, but told the Tribune Thursday the average cost of the surgery ranges between $8,000 to $10,000. He said the entire amount was paid by Nochimson.
“Miles had no health insurance, I do know that,” MacLaren told the Tribune. “Josh called me and said how much is this going to cost. I said I don’t know the exact cost, I don’t do the billing. I gave him the number for the billing department.”
If Nochimson, who had been certified by the NBA Players Association as a players’ agent 19 months earlier, paid for Miles’ surgery, that could have made Miles ineligible to play basketball at any NCAA university, according to NCAA rules.

really Zags? You can’t mention how UCONN won last night, but you are going to throw up every BS report that comes out now it regards to this miles saga? So you got something against UCONN too? Because you got the facts wrong when Calhoun missed first game on the dance? Seriously…this Tampa report is garbage and this Physician is possibly facing state action w/. medical board for violating HIPPA laws. He can’t say what surgery he did? but can say everything else? Honestly….have some journalism integrity rather then piling on to this storm. Yet again…you are now appearing as just another one shooting stones towards Storrs to make up for some slight you received in the past. Loser!

fine…I took a long walk and enjoyed an amazing afternoon w/. my 18th month old son…..feel better and will take away the harshness of my first post. Zags you do indeed do a great job and visit your blog often- but to see this report and the tag “This Nate Miles story just keeps getting better and better” and not even mention of the game/win last night got my blood boiling. I will refrain from future commentary as this ugly media blitz/situation plays out

I have nothing against UConn and enjoy strong relationships with their coaching staff and several of their players.
I was simply reporting the news, sorry if the first line offended you. I don’t wish the players any ill will, but it certainly doesn’t look good in the long term for Coach Calhoun and the program. The consensus is these appear to be major violations.
