Gillispie Out; Coaching Carousel Begins to Spin

BOSTON — This is the time of year when the coaching carousel spins faster and faster until some men are thrown off their horses and others are fortunate enough to land on new ones.

With coaching changes expected at such high-profile programs as Arizona, Kentucky and Virginia, the rumor mill is running wild with names of potential candidates.

Not surprisingly, several Big East coaches are in the mix. Louisville coach Rick Pitino has been mentioned in association with both Arizona and Kentucky. Villanova coach Jay Wright’s name has been thrown out as a possibility at Kentucky. And several assistant coaches, including Pitt’s Tom Herrion and Louisville’s Richard Pitino, have been named as possibilities for the Boston University job.
