BOSTON — No matter who wins Thursday’s Villanova-Duke game in the Sweet 16, the folks at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark will be proud.
No. 2 Duke (30-6) features one former St. Benedict’s player in junior forward Lance Thomas and No. 3 Villanova (28-7) has two former Gray Bees in senior forward Frank Tchuisi and sophomore guard Corey Stokes. The teams will clash in an East Regional showdown at the TD Banknorth Garden.
“We know that one of our guys will advance to the final eight with a change to get to the Final Four,” St. Benedict’s coach Dan Hurley said. “And we’re all obviously rooting for Samardo [Samuels, of Louisville] to get to the Final Four.” No. 1 Louisville meets No. 12 Arizona in a West Regional game on Friday.
