NEW YORK – St. John’s could’ve used Chris Mullin’s feathery jump shot and Lance Stephenson’s aggressive drives to the basket to be competitive in this one.
But Mullin is 45 and long retired from his playing days, while Stephenson, who stars at nearby Brooklyn Lincoln High School, is 18 and won’t play his first college game until next year.
Without them, No. 13 St. John’s set a Big East Tournament record by scoring just 10 points in the first half and lost to No. 5 Marquette 74-45 in ugly fashion at Madison Square Garden.
