Renardo Sidney Makes His Pick

Renardo Sidney, the 6-foot-11, 250-pound power forward out of Los Angeles Fairfax High, made his college announcement Sunday in the Fairfax gym.

“I chose USC because Tim Floyd has been a successful coach  at every level and I am confident he can help me become a better player,” Sidney said.

The No. 10 player in the Rivals 150,  Sidney chose USC over UCLA, Memphis, Virginia and Mississippi State.

Sidney’s father also said he was comfortable with Floyd “because he’s  a Southern guy who has roots in Mississippi and I’ve been able to track his progress as a coach and we trust that he will do a good job as a coach with my son.”

Sidney, one of the elite seniors who was still undecided, still must take the SAT in March and obtain a qualifying score.

“I’m excited about taking the test,”  Sidney said.

Sidney is familiar with several USC players from AAU ball, including Daniel Hackett and Percy Miller. He also knows Marques Johnson from the summer circuit.

Asked about potentially playing in Europe, he said, “It worked out well for Brandon [Jennings] but I’m excited about staying here.  I’m not even sure about where in Europe I’d go play.”
