NEW YORK -- Sherrod Wright sometimes hears
A whole lot is shaking this weekend in the high school hoops world. Here’s a quick rundown….
**Paterson Catholic junior Fuquan Edwin scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Cougars to a 57-54 OT victory over Lance STephenson and Lincoln at the RAC.
It was the third loss in four games for the Railsplitters (12-7), who face Dan Hurley’s St. Benedict’s Prep team Saturday night in Newark.
NEW YORK — Sherrod Wright shot, drove and jumped his way into a personal highlight film and propelled his Mount Vernon team into the championship game of the SNY Invitational.
The 6-foot-4 senior wing had a game-high 32 points, 10 rebounds and five steals to lift the Knights to a 76-65 victory over Thomas Jefferson of Brooklyn in the first game of the doubleheader at NYU’s Coles Center.
Mount Vernon (9-2) will meet St. Raymonds of The Bronx (10-5) in Saturdays title game at 8 p.m. on SNY.

And see the video highlights of that game below.
The SNY Invitational tips off tonight and tomorrow at NYU’s Coles Center. The four teams battling it out are Thomas Jefferson, Boys & Girls, Mount Vernon and St. Raymond’s. Check out this video feature of Thomas Jefferson, which has faced tragedy in the form of the shootings of two of its coaches, the late Tyrone Davis and Kenny Jones, who is back home after a stay in the hospital.
And be sure to watch the games tonight at 6 and 8 on SNY as I will be making an appearance to talk recruiting and high school hoops.

“[Anthony Farmer] is banged up. He sprained his wrist [last night against Louisville]. He’ll miss today’s practice, and then we’ll evaluate him. It’ll be a day-by-day thing to see when he’ll be back on the floor but we’re hoping he will be back on the floor on Saturday.
“We really couldn’t see anything, how it got sprained or bruised. We’re just going to evaluate him and treat him and try to get him on the floor.
“He’s our captain, our leader at point guard so it’s tough not to have him out there. We have to try to get him healthy and see if we can get him Saturday.”
–Rutgers coach Fred Hill on Anthony Farmer’s wrist injury
“We go up to the Garden on Saturday. We’re playing a St John’s team that is very, very similar to us. Very, very good defensively, playing very hard. I expect a very hard fought defensive minded game Saturday up at the Garden.”
–Hill on the St. John’s game
“We want to win every game but we don’t put an emphasis on having to win every game. Our goal is to get better each and every game…We’ve played some real good basketball but we haven’t been able to put together 40 minutes.”
–Hill on starting out 0-6 in the league
“[Terrence Williams] has improved every year out.
