    North Carolina-bound guard Dexter Strickland underwent an MRI on his left knee Wednesday but he should be able to play in St. Patrick’s next game on Saturday.

    “He had an MRI and it’s just a strain on the tendon,” Lamont Halsey, Strickland’s stepfather, said Thursday morning. “We’ll let him sit a couple days. He’s feeling better. We’re just taking precautions. He should be alright, he should be ready to go go Saturday against Trenton Catholic.’

    Added St. Patrick coach Kevin Boyle before the MRI results were known:

    “He hurt his knee,” Boyle said. “It’s swollen. He’ll take several days off.”

    Boston College, Marquette, Rutgers

    Mike Rosario and Rutgers fought hard against No. 18 Marquette, but the Scarlet Knights dropped their third straight Big East contest and fourth straight overall.

    Rosario, the freshman out of St. Anthony in Jersey City, scored 16 of his team-high 22 points in the second half before fouling out in the final seconds of an 81-76 loss.

    “It’s just very difficult to dig yourself a hole like that,” said Rutgers coach Fred Hill, whose team was down 21 points. “It takes so much energy and there’s no margin for error. I’m very, very proud of the kids and the way they battled and the way they kept coming and the things that they did. But it’s very difficult to put yourself in a 21 point hole and think you’re going to come back and ultimately overtake a really good team to win the game.”

    Here are a few quick updates on some happenings in the hoops world….

    ***As first reported here last month, Memphis sophomore guard Jeff Robinson will transfer. Robinson, who led St. Patrick of Elizabeth (NJ) to back-to-back New Jersey Tournament of Champions crowns in 2006 and ’07, was granted his release by the University and could end up closer to home at Seton Hall or St. Joe’s. If he ends up somewhere for the upcoming semester, he could suit up in the second semester of the 2009-10 season.

    The 6-foot-5 Robinson fell out of John Calipari’s rotation and did not play the last four games because of a lower back injury.

    Kansas, Lance Stephenson, Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Villanova

    Keon Lawrence will suit up for the rest of Seton Hall’s season if he receives a hardship waiver from the NCAA, according to a source close to Lawrence.

    “He changed his mind because he wants to help his team,” Alif Muhammad, an advisor to the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Lawrence, said by phone at halftime of the Villanova-Seton Hall game in which Villanova guard Scottie Reynolds poured in career-high tying 40 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, in an 89-85 OT victory at the Prudential Center.

    Marquette, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Seton Hall

    Beas Hamga, the 7-footer from Cameroon who is transferring from UNLV, is expected to visit Rutgers this coming weekend for Saturday’s Syracuse game.

    “I think he goes to Rutgers on Friday,” his advisor, Mark Adams, said by phone. “He’s coming out for the game.”

    Hamga was supposed to attend last week’s Pitt-Rutgers game, but his flight was cancelled, Adams said.

    Hamga would be eligible in the second semester of next year and could play one semester with Rutgers big man Hamady NDiaye, a junior.
