Big Apple Invitational Notes: Lance Stephenson, Tobias Harris, Achraf Yocoubou, Joel Wright

Here are a few notes from today’s Big Apple Invitational at Baruch College…

Some coaches on hand: Andre LaFleur (UConn), Craig Carter (Rutgers), Dermon Player (Seton Hall), Fred Quartlebaum (St. John’s), Julius Allen (Binghamton).

Lists:

LANCE STEPHENSON, 6-5 Sr. G, Lincoln: St. John’s, Kansas, Memphis, UCLA

Quote: “I think if I come here [to St. John’s] I could bring New York back, that would be a good look for me and St. John’s. I love playing in the Garden, the bright lights, the fire comes out of me so I’m ready for all challenges.”

“It’s wherever is best for my family,” Stephenson added. “We’re just going to work it out after the season and see what we can do. After the season ends, I’m going to decide.”

BRANDON KNIGHT, 6-3 Jr. G, Pine Crest (Fla): UConn, Duke, Florida, Georgia Tech, Miami, Syracuse

Note: UConn assistant Andre LaFleur is hot on his trail

TOBIAS HARRIS, 6-8 Jr. F, Long Island Lutheran: UConn, Tennessee, Louisville, Syracuse, Rutgers, Georgetown, Virginia, Maryland, Marquette, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, St. John’s, Boston College, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Indiana and USC.

When will you cut it down? “Before the summer.”

When will you come back from your ankle injury? “Next Saturday for All Hallows. I get cleared on Wednesday.”

TYLER HARRIS, 6-6 So G, Long Island Lutheran: UConn, Virginia,
Duquesne, Fordham, West Virginia

ACHRAF YOCOUBOU, 6-4 So. G, Long Island Lutheran: UConn, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Seton Hall

Favorite: “I’d say UConn right now. I like [head coach Jim] Calhoun, I like how they run their offense . I like the school, the area.”

JOEL ‘AIR JAMAICA’ WRIGHT, 6-6 Jr. F, Thomas Jefferson: West Virginia, Fordham, Seton Hall, Villanova, Providence

Quote: “West Virginia, Fordham and Providence [are my favorites]. [ I’ll decide] by the end of this season].”

STEPHEN SPINELLA, 6-6 postgrad F, Apex: South Carolina, Seton Hall, Penn State have offered. Oklahoma State, Toledo and Arizona State are interested.

RESULTS

Jamesville-DeWitt 73, Lincoln 63

Lincoln senior guard Lance Stephenson had 15 points on 5-of-17 shooting and 8 rebounds and Maryland-bound power forward James Padgett tallied 13 points and seven rebounds. Shaquille Stokes , the transfer from St. Patrick of Elizabeth, and Codion Becker each scored 14 points, but totaled 11 turnovers.

Alshawn Hymes led DeWitt with 28 points, Syracuse-bound guard Brandon Triche added 20 and Dajuan Coleman had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Thomas Jefferson 59, Long Island Lutheran 55

Senior guard Keith Spellman had 21 points, 10 rebounds and 6 steals and Joel “Air Jamaica” Wright added 12 points and 8 boards for the Orange Wave. Sophomore point guard Davontay Grace added 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

Sophomore wing Tyler Harris , who holds an offer from UConn, along with older brother Tobias, scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 4 rebounds and Achraf Yocoubou added 22 points and 14 boards for LuHi.

Notre Dame Prep 100, Apex 69

Cincinnati commit Sean Kilpatrick tallied 21 points on 10-of-16 shooting, 6 rebounds and 4 steals and Providence-bound guard Johnny Lacy added 17 points and 4 assists. Syracuse commit James Southerland added 15 points and 4 rebounds.

Malcolm Pope Jr. tallied 19 points and Alibaba Odd had 14 for Apex. Charles Markens scored 10 points, while Eugene Teague managed just2 points on 1-of-2 shooting.

Cardozo 67, St. Peter’s 54

Reynaldo Walters poured in a game-high 20 points and Dwayne Brunson added 18 points and 10 rebounds for Cardozo. Ryan Rhoomes added 8 points and 10 rebounds.

Lenny Ragaglia scored 18 for St. Peter’s, Chris Giordano had 13 and Trevor Sykes 10.
