Sophomore guard Jeff Robinson will transfer to Seton Hall for the upcoming semester if he can get into the school academically, according to several sources close to the situation.
The 6-foot-5 Robinson, a Trenton (NJ) native who led St. Patrick of Elizabeth to back-to-back New Jersey Tournament of Champions crowns in 2006 and ‘07, was granted his release by Memphis.
A strong slasher and finisher, Robinson would have to sit a year per NCAA regulations and could suit up in the second semester of the 2009-10 season.
He considered several area schools, including St. Joe’s, but that school does not have an immediate scholarship to grant him.
Seton Hall currently has eight scholarship players and can offer Robinson immediate playing time in an up-tempo offense while playing in front of his friends and family at the Prudential Center in Newark. He must get his transferable credits accepted by Seton Hall before he can officially transfer.
If he suits up next year, Robinson would be Seton Hall’s fourth transfer, following Robert “Stix” Mitchell, who is playing this year, and Keon Lawrence and Herb Pope, who are currently sitting out.
Robinson fell out of John Calipari’s rotation and did not play the last four games because of a lower back injury.
He was averaging 2.1 points in 9.2 minutes. Last year he notched a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds against Siena.
Coming out of St. Patrick, Robinson was a consensus top-50 recruit. He was rated No. 36 by Rivals, No. 38 by ESPN150 and No. 43 by RiseMag. He was ranked among the country’s top small forwards by ESPN150 (5) and Rivals (11).
BIG EAST SCHOOLS AFTER HANKINS
Three Big East schools are also reportedly in the hunt for Quincy Hankins, a 6-8 sophomore at Polk (Fla.) Community College who is averaging 13 rebounds per game.
Seton Hall, St. John’s and South Florida are in the mix for the Roosevelt, N.Y. native, according to Greg Auman’s blog on TampaBay.com.
“He’s a warrior on the boards,” Polk coach Matt Furjanic told Auman. The coach added that USF has had coaches at multiple games and has also been to see Hankins in practices. A St. John’s assistant also went to see him play.
Hankins won’t take any visits or make any decisions until after the season.

This is definitely good news Adam, I hope it holds up and he ends up in South Orange. If it goes through, does that pretty much confirm that DeAndre Kane will not be a Pirate?
