    SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — Playing its first and only exhibition game of the preseason, Seton Hall routed Division 2 Molloy, 101-68, Friday night at Walsh Gym.

    Junior guard Eugene Harvey led the Pirates with 19 points and sophomore forward Brandon Walters had 18 points, including a 16-foot jumper, and 10 rebounds.

    Walters said he was “definitely motivated” by comments head coach Bobby Gonzalez made about him on media day.

    “I think he’s a borderline Big East player,” Gonzalez said of Walters last month. “I don’t have a ton of confidence in him right now but he is a forward.”

    Paterson Catholic, Syracuse

    Former Paterson (N.J.) Catholic and Syracuse standout Darryl “Mookie” Watkins is headed East.

    To the Far East.

    The 6-foot-11 Watkins signed a contract to play for Tianjin of the Chinese Basketball League. The story was originally reported by Mike Waters of the Syracuse Post-Standard.

    “He told me was going to fly out to China to play,” said Marquis Webb, Watkins’ former Paterson Catholic teammate and former Rutgers standout. “He sounded pretty excited. He sounded real excited.”

    “He had a bunch of other options,” said Watkins’ agent, Mark Bartelstein. “But we felt this was a good situation for him because the season’s not that long over there and it gives him a chance to come back and play in the NBA or go to the the NBDL.”

    Rollie Massimino’s return to Villanova didn’t end well for the legendary former Wildcats coach.

    The Wildcats, No. 5 in the Big East preseason poll, topped Massimino’s Northwood (Fla.) team, 75-37, at the Wachovia Spectrum. It was ‘Nova’s first game inside the building since 1998.

    Massimino, of course, led Villanova to the 1985 NCAA championship with a stunning upset of Patrick Ewing and Georgetown.

    Villanova senior forward Dante Cunningham scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting and junior guard Scottie Reynolds had 14 points and six assists. Cunningham also had a game-high eight rebounds and sophomore guard Corey Fisher of St. Patrick of Elizabeth (N.J.) scored 10 points.

    Two of the top uncommitted players in the metropolitan area will take key official visits this weekend.

    Sherrod Wright, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound shooting guard from Mount Vernon High, is headed to South Carolina today for an official visit.

    “He is going to South Carolina [Friday],” Mount Vernon coach Bob Cimmino said.

    Wright is ranked No. 35 among shooting guards in the Class of 2009 by Rivals. Cimmino said Marquette and Providence were the other “legitimate” players for Wright, but it remains unclear if Wright will take further officials after this weekend, or whether he will commit in November or April.

    Xavier Henry, the No. 1 shooting guard in the Class of 2009, will likely delay his college decision until spring while he recovers from surgery to repair a broken cheekbone suffered during a car accident last month.

    Henry underwent a two-hour surgical process Thursday morning in Oklahoma City, according to his father, Carl Henry.

    “The surgery is about two hours,” Carl said by phone. “In about four hours they’ll see if he can go home.”
