Great job by Alex Schwartz of Northstar Basketball getting this update on Derrick Favors of South Atlanta High. Favors told Schwartz he has eliminated Florida State from his list and is down to Georgia, Georgia Tech, Memphis and N.C. State.
The 6-foot-9 Favors did not sign in the early signing period and will now wait to sign in the spring. He has taken officials to N.C. State and the two Georgia schools, but his recent visit to Memphis was cancelled because his mother was ill.
He told Schwartz that he won’t necessarily pick one of the in-state schools.
“I think [people have] . . . assumed that,” he said. “[It depends how] comfortable I feel about the school, and how comfortable I feel with the coaches and players.”
Favors is part of a group of talented seniors who have yet to commit. That group includes John Wall, Lance Stephenson, Dominic Cheek, Latavious Williams and REnardo Sidney.
“I just wanted to wait [and] . . . weigh my options, so I could make sure I made the right decision,” Favors said. “I don’t know why [the others are waiting]. . . . They probably [are] just waiting so they can weigh their options too. I don’t know why.”
