Chandler Opens Up About Personal Issues

Strong piece by my esteemed colleague Jerry Carino of the Courier News today about Rutgers sophomore guard Corey Chandler.

Chandler sat out RU’s exhibition win over Caldwell College for disciplinary reasons, but has returned to provide a spark off the bench. Against Delaware last Sunday, the Newark native had 13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals in 15 minutes.

Chandler admits he’s been distracted by some tough events in his personal life.

“In beginning of the school year I had lost a person in my life, somebody passed away who was close to me. And recently one of my friends passed away too,” he said. “I’ve been going through a lot of things, but I’m still here. I’m happy that I’ve got my team to support me and Coach Hill, my family and everybody. I’m all right now.”

Rutgers takes a 2-0 record into tonight’s tilt against Robert Morris in the Garden State Challenge.

As mentioned here yesterday, St. Anthony wing Dominic Cheek, the former teammate of RU frosh Mike Rosario, will be on his official visit to Rutgers this weekend. He is down to Kansas, Villanova, Pitt and Rutgers and will visit Pitt beginning Tuesday.
