Lincoln, Jersey Powers Atop National Prep Poll

The first edition of the National Prep Basketball Poll is out and, as usual, Brooklyn Lincoln and the trinity of Jersey Catholic powerhouses are near the top.

Lance Stephenson and Lincoln are No. 4 in the national poll, followed by Danny Hurley’s St. Benedict’s team at No. 5 and Kevin Boyle’s St. Patrick team at No. 6. For the record, we’re picking the Celtics to win the New Jersey Tournament of Champions in 2009. Led by North Carolina-bound G Dexter Strickland, George Mason commit Paris Bennett and junior guard Kyrie Irving, the Celtics are the best team in Jersey.

Bob Hurley’s defending national champion St. Anthony chimed in at No. 13.

Duncanville of Texas, winner of 74 of its last 76 games, is No. 1.

  • i cannot understand why lincoln continues to be in the top ten each year. each year they go on the road and lose significantly to teams. they are a great team in the psal and in nyc but they cannot compete with teams that play national schedules. last year, they lost everywhere they went! to have them ranked higher than st. benedicts, st. pats and st. anthonys is crazy!

lance is extremely talented and if all goes right he will definitely be a pro. but he is not a leader! he cannot lead his team to victories over quality teams with national schedules!

  • I personally think St. Patrick is the best of the group, but it’s difficult also to lump in St. Ben’s, which is not a member of the state association and has no limits on recruiting.

Lincoln plays St. Pat’s in February so we will see….
