Seton Hall must continue to wait for its first verbal commitment in the Class of 2009.
Arsalan Kazemi, a 6-foot-7 combo forward from The Patterson (N.C.) School, remains uncommitted after his weekend official visit to Seton Hall.
“Are we interested? Yes, we are,” Anthony Ibrahim, Kazemi’s adviser, said in a phone interview. “Are we highly interested? Yes, we are highly interested? Did we like it? Yes, we did. We both liked it. The biggest thing that I saw was that [Seton Hall head coach Bobby] Gonzalez really wanted Arsalan and wanted him to commit now. He wanted him to get it over with, let the whole nation know that Arsalan Kazemi committed. That’s what they wanted to hear. I’m sorry we were not able to give them that, but we are definitely still very, very interested in them.”
Kazemi, hoping to become the first Iranian to play American college ball, will visit Rice next weekend and Maryland Nov. 8 for an exhibition.
Other schools remain interested but those are the only official visits yet set.
“We’re going to see what the future Hall of Famer Ben Braun [of Rice] brings to the table,” Ibrahim said. “And we’ve gotta see what Mr. Gary Williams thinks.”
More on this in a bit….

They definitely want to get a feel for Rice and Maryland. I will update this post tomorrow with more quotes. Gotta get some dinner now!

Hey Adam do you think there is a good chance he will commit to Maryland after his visit and who is the front runner for this guy?

If I had to choose among these three, Rice is easily the best academically.
On the other hand, Ben Braun will never be a Hall of Fame coach…at least in Springfield.

I believe Kazemi will take all 3 visits and from there I really don’t know what happens. Ibrahim is very high on Ben Braun, and Rice is in Texas where Ibrahim lives. He also speaks highly of Bobby Gonzalez and Gary Williams. They want to commit in the fall, but there’s also a chance this thing could go to the spring. Stay tuned…

Is Karron Johnson still part of Seton Hall’s 2009 recruiting picture?
He’s a, well, volatile kid, but he’d be a major recruit for Gonzalez to land.

I think if Seton Hall could choose, they would love to get both Kazemi and Jarrid Famous in this class. That would certainly help their frontcourt concerns going forward. They still believe they have a shot with Dominic Cheek, but I’d say that’s a long, long shot.
Kazemi and Famous remain distinct possibilities, although Kazemi plans on visiting Rice and Maryland to get a feel for their programs.
Famous has taken only the official to Seton Hall, but may also wait until the spring, when he visits UConn, Missouri and West Virginia.
