Crump to Baylor; Fitzgerald to Oklahoma

Givon Crump, 6-foot-6, 210-pound small forward from Wolfeboro (NH) Brewster Academy, committed to Baylor head coach Scott Drew on Sunday night.

Crump chose Baylor over Rutgers, Oregon State, South Florida, DePaul, Cal. He visited Rutgers this past weekend.

“(I liked the) style of play (at Baylor) and it is a Christian school,” Crump said in a text message. “They’re in a strong conference. They showed me love and on my visit there it was a family-like atmosphere.”

“It was very tough between Baylor and Rutgers but felt Baylor was the better fit,” added Marcus Matthews, Crump’s AAU coach said. “He loved the academics and the players and the facilities are outstanding. Coach Drew was personable and let Givon know how he could come in and play early. Givon loved the fact that Baylor averaged 81 points last year and led the Big 12 in scoring.”

Meantime, Crump’s Brewster teammate, Andrew Fitzgerald, has committed to Oklahoma, according to Jeff Goodman of FoxSports.com.

Smith, a 6-9, 245-pound center, chose the Sooners over Minnesota, Kentucky, Virginia and James Madison.

“He’s a very skilled big man who finishes everything around the rim and has an extremely high basketball IQ,” Brewster coach Jason Smith told Goodman. “He knows how to play and his club team coach, Carlton Carrington, has done a tremendous job with Drew. He’s worked hard on conditioning and will have a nice career at Oklahoma.”
