It’s the end of the week and Jordan Williams is still deciding where to go to college.
The 6-foot-10, 245-pound center from Torrington (Conn.) High is thought to be down to St. John’s and Maryland.
“His father said he would be making a decision by the end of the week, and if not by the end of this week then early next week,” Torrington head coach Tony Turina said Friday.
“He’s having a tough time deciding what it’s gonna come down to,” he added. “He thinks they’re both great schools and both coaches are great people (Norm Roberts and Gary Williams). I think he’s just having a tough time narrowing it down. It is going to be one of those schools. What’s it’s coming down to is he’s having a tough time telling one team he’s not coming.”
A report on Scout by Dave Telep quoted Williams as saying he was no longer considering just these two schools, though, was still hearing from UMass, Xavier, Marquette, Arizona and Indiana.
Wherever he ends up, Williams could be an impact player within a year or two. Williams averaged 28 points, 15 rebounds, 7 blocks and 3 assists last season, Turina said. He has scored more than 1,000 career points despite missing half of his freshman year, and he is within 250 or so points of the school record set by his uncle, Murray Williams.
MIDNIGHT MADNESS NOTES
UConn will host Long Island Lutheran’s Tobias Harris, Tyler Harris and Ashcraf Yacoubou tonight for “First Night,” as well as three players from St. Benedict’s Prep: Mike Poole, Maurice Harkless, and Rudy Collins. Mike Buffalo of Wings also is expected, and Durand Scott of Rice could also make an appearance.
Dominic Cheek of St. Anthony went down to Kansas on Thursday in advance of Late Night in the Phog. He and the other recruits on campus are expected to scrimmage Saturday against the current team, which includes former St. Anthony star Tyshawn Taylor. The coaches will leave and allow the players to compete.

Hello Adam,
I am a big time Maryland fan from Schenectady, NY, absolutely love Gary Williams and I found your site because I am a member over at MetsBlog. However, my question is what do you know or think is going to happen with Jordan Williams? I think he would really be an excellent pickup for us, someone we need and he could do really good things at Maryland. I am hoping he picks soon so do you know when you think he will decide and where he will end up? Thanks alot!

Thanks for the comment and I appreciate you coming to the site. I don’t know the answer. If I did, I’d have the story posted! I thought it was down to Maryland and St. John’s, but now it seems maybe Jordan is considering his other options. His quotes on Scout would lead one to believe he’s looking at all his options, while the high school coach, Turina, says it’s either St. John’s or Maryland. I suspect we’ll find out soon. Thanks.
