Williams to Decide This Week

Torrington (Conn.) big man Jordan Williams will likely announce this week whether he will attend Maryland or St. John’s.

“I spoke to Jordan and his father on Sunday,” Torrington coach Tony Turina said by phone. “They haven’t made a decision. They’re hoping by the end of the week. They will be sitting down in a day or so to finalize things. He was interested in possibly this week coming to a final decision and making a verbal commitment to one or the other school.”

The 6-foot-10, 245-pound Wiliams has opted not visit any other schools, even though UMass and Providence were in the mix. Turina said Arizona, Cal, Siena and Marquette also called to express interest.

Wherever he ends up, Williams could be an impact player within a year or two. Williams averaged 28 points, 15 rebounds, 7 blocks and 3 assists last season, Turina said. He has scored more than 1,000 career points despite missing half of his freshman year, and he is within 250 or so points of the school record set by his uncle, Murray Williams.

  • Hey Zags, can you send Jordan a text and tell him to come to St. John’s please.

  • Jordan should be a Terp by Friday evening.

  • RonDawg is that your guess or should I take that to the bank? Whichever the case I really want you to be right!

  • Hamburgler, It’s a very strong gut feeling. I feel really gooe about. Jordan. I also feel really good about Buie and Epps.

  • Same, I feel good about Jordan too. I’ll tell you another guy I feel great about is Kazemi. If we land Epps and Buie in 2010 the terps will be back in buisness.

  • Kazemi is very interested. And don’t forget about Tobias Harris in 2010. He’s very interested and a AAU teamate of Buie. The possibities are numerous and their all 4 or 5 stars.

  • Tobias Harris is a talent, I just get discouraged when we mix it up with the big boys in terms of recruiting. The Terps have an NC, play in a great conference, and can offer immediate playing time, but recruits often only see W’s and L’s so this year is very important. I think the Terps have had a mentaility of slow playing a lot of recruits where we should be taking those who want to come and will fit.
