Cheek’s Kansas Visit; Indiana Up Next

The parade of college coaches continues to come through Jersey City to visit with St. Anthony senior guard Dominic Cheek.

Kansas head coach Bill Self and assistant Joe Dooley had an in-home visit on Monday night with the 6-foot-5 Cheek, his uncle, Omari Knight, and St. Anthony head coach Bob Hurley.

“It was good,” Knight said by phone. “We had a lot of conversations about Dominic going to the school. Everything sounds good. We’ve got to still try to take a visit (to Kansas) to get the overall picture of the school. It looked good and they have (former St. Anthony standout) Tyshawn (Taylor) over there.”

No official visit date has been set, but “he wants to go visit,” Knight said.

“I think he’s going to look at the school and all that stuff first, get a picture of the school, a feeling for the school and all those things first,” he added.

Seton Hall and Memphis have already had in-home visits and Indiana head coach Tom Crean and assistant Roshown McLeod are up next on Wednesday. Crean recently hired McLeod, a former St. Anthony star who is the older brother of current guard Devon McLeod, a close friend of Cheek’s.

Cheek will also take officials to Wake Forest and Villanova, but no dates have been set. Assuming he goes to Tennessee and Kansas, one other official would then go to Memphis, Indiana, Pitt, UConn, Rutgers or Seton Hall. Rutgers comes in for an in-home on Sunday, and Villanova follows on Sept. 23.

TRYING TO GET FAMOUS

The pursuit of Westchester Community College 7-footer Jarrid Famous continues. UConn head coach Jim Calhoun and assistant Andre LaFleur are coming in to watch Famous today (Tuesday). Oklahoma State head coach Travis Ford and visits Wednesday. Missouri will be back out this week. Marquette was in the gym yesterday (Monday).
