Coaches Flock to See Buie, Padgett, Williams

A slew of college coaches will visit Bishop Maginn in Albany on Saturday for a coaches clinic. Of course it doesn’t hurt that that Maginn stars 6-foot-1 junior point guard Taran Buie, the No. 13 point guard in the Class of 2010.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, Rutgers coach Freddie Hill, Maryland coach Gary Williams, Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt, Penn State coach Ed DeChellis, Fairfield coach Ed Cooley and Siena assistant Mitch Buonaguro will all give an hour clinic starting at 9 a.m., according to the Albany Times Union.

“We are very fortunate to have a player like Taran,” Maginn coach Rich Hurley told the newspaper. “That certainly helped get this event going. This is a great opportunity for area coaches to learn different aspects of the game from some of the top coaches in the country.”

Both Buie and Plainfield (NJ) junior guard Isaiah Epps are scheduled to attend Maryland Madness on Oct. 17.

POWER FORWARDS PADGETT, WILLIAMS DRAWING VISITORS

6-7 Lincoln big man James Padgett had an in-home visit Thursday night from Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon. He will take an official visit to Maryland this weekend, and Pitt next. South Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina have recently added offers, according to Pantherlair.com, joining Pitt, Providence, Rutgers, St. John’s, West Virginia, and Kentucky…Jordan Williams, a 6-9 power forward from Torrington (Ct.) High, had in-home visits this week from Marquette and Maryland, and will get St. John’s and Providence next week, according to TerrapinTimes.com. “I can tell you that I am going to take an official visit there [Maryland],” Hamilton told TT.com. “I am thinking about coming down for their Maryland Madness, since it sounds like that is also Homecoming Weekend and a lot will be going on. Right now, that is the tentative plan, but it’s possible I could visit before then. This process is just beginning in terms of home and official visits, and I am not ready to say anyone is leading at this point. But Maryland is definitely going to be in the mix.” He also holds offers from Cal, Arizona, UMass, Penn State and Georgetown.
