Jersey’s Moreno Runs Over Central Michigan

Knowshon Moreno, a Belford, N.J. native and Heisman Trophy candidate, rushed for 168 yards and tied his career high with three touchdowns as No. 2 Georgia routed Central Michigan 56-17 on Saturday.

On one play in the third quarter, he hurdled a defender and ran for 29 yards.

“I’ve never seen anything like that before,” Georgia defensive tackle Corvey Irvin told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “He might not even be human. Wow, how’d he do that, all in one motion?”

Mark Richt, the Georgia coach, said Moreno had done that once before in practice.

Walter Payton might have done it one time,” Richt said.

“He’s a special kid,” the coach added. “We saw him do it in practice, and I redshirted him (last year) anyway. That wasn’t real smart on my part. I knew he was good, but I didn’t know he was that good.”

**The Big East continued to take a beating as East Carolina upset No. 8 West Virginia, 24-3, in Greenville, N.C. ECU took a 17-3 halftime lead and outplayed the Mountaineers in all aspects of the game. West Virginia QB Pat White was just 11-for-18 for 72 yards passing and 97 rushing. ECU QB Patrick Pinkney went 22-of-28 for 236 yards and a score.

It was ECU’s first win over a Top 10 team since 1999.

“It feels like we won a championship today,” C.J. Wilson of ECU said.

**UConn and South Florida each won to remain the lone unbeatens in the Big East. UConn downed Temple 12-9 behind 214 rushing yards from Donald Brown; USF got by Central Florida, 31-24, in OT.

LeSean McCoy totaled 93 yards rushing and scored three times as Pitt beat Buffalo, 27-16, to improve to 1-1. Louisville beat Tennessee Tech, 51-10 to get to 1-1. Cincinnati was routed at No. 4 Oklahaoma, 52-26, to drop to 1-1. Syracuse lost to Akron, 42-28, to fall to 0-2. You have to think Orange coach Greg Robinson is in danger of losing his job at this point; his career record is now 7-30.

The eight Big East teams are 8-7 entering Rutgers’ game Thursday at home against North Carolina.
