Life After Rice: Rutgers Gets Cooked

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — So much for the chances of an undefeated season for the Rutgers football team.
And so much for that high-scoring affair the Scarlet Knights and Fresno State were supposed to showcase on ESPN.
The Bulldogs traveled some 3,000 miles to hand Rutgers a 24-7 loss in its season opener before 42,508 mostly red-clad fans at the newly refurbished, yet still-under-construction Rutgers Stadium.
“Some days you have a bad day,” Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said. “We just didn’t play very well today. We didn’t coach very well today. We didn’t do any of the things you need to do to win.”
