Lawrence, Parrom Enjoyed UConn Visit

South Kent (Conn.) teammates Omari Lawrence and Kevin Parrom visited UConn on Friday, and both came away impressed.

The 6-foot-6 Parrom, who had previously cut his list to five schools — St. John’s, Xavier, South Carolina, Marquette and Rutgers — will add the Huskies to his list as a result of the visit. He is ranked No. 18 among small forwards in the Class of 2009.

“I know he’s adding it to this list,” Lawrence said.

“Yes,” Parrom, who will visit St. John’s on Monday, confirmed in a text message.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Lawrence, ranked No. 32 among shooting guards in the Class of 2009 by Rivals, also lists St. John’s, Florida, South Florida, Providence and Marquette among his top options.

“The visit went well. I had a lot of fun,” Lawrence said. “I talked with some of the coaches and one of the players. The wall with all the NBA players listed (is cool). The gym was nice; it’s a real big facility. The locker rooms were nice also. The pictures in Coach (Jim) Calhoun’s office of everybody who made it to the league and the first-round draft picks.. that’s all cool to look at.”

Thirty-seven former Huskies, many of whom are playing professionaly in the NBA or elsewhere competed in Calhoun’s annual All-Star Charity Event Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Lawrence and Parrom did not attend, however.

Lawrence had previously mentioned St. John’s as his favorite. Is that still the case?

“That’s still true,” he said.

“I don’t have an exact list,” he added. “I just know that I like the schools. I’m not sure how serious I am abut UConn. I’ll go to a few games this year and talk with the coach a little more and stuff like that.”

Lawrence still plans to visit Louisville Aug. 31 and decide on his school “before the season starts.”

As for his dislocated shoulder, he said: “Its feeling better. Next week I start my rehab. I’m going to be fine for my season.”

Parrom and Lawrence both leave for South Kent in early September.
