Wall Announcement Could Come Any Time

John Wall, the No. 1 player in the Class of 2009 according to Rivals, could announce his college choice as early as next week…or he could wait.

“If he chooses so, then very possibly next week,” Brian Clifton, Wall’s advisor, said via text message. “However, if he decides that it’ll be later, then that will be fine as well.”

He added: “(There is) no timetable. Whenever he’s ready.”

Many observers think it is now a fait accompli that the 6-foot-4 Wall will end up at Baylor now that his travel team coach, Dwon Clifton, Brian’s brother, has been hired as the Director of Player Development by Baylor coach Scott Drew. Dwon Clifton played for Baylor assistant Matt Driscoll at Clemson.

Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis, Oregon, North Carolina State, Southern California and Texas have also been on Wall’s list.

“The list is the same as it has been,” Brian Clifton said.

Still, most folks will be shocked if Wall doesn’t announce for Baylor at this point.

Wherever he goes, it likely won’t be for long. Wall says he plans to be one-and-done or two-and-done for college in order to help support his family, including his mom and two sisters.

“My dad (John Sr.) passed when I was 10,” Wall told SI.com. “After he passed, I was the man of the house. I realized I wanted to go somewhere and get my family in a better situation.”

“If I go one-and-done or two-and-done,” Wall added, “I’m going back to school and finish regardless. I promised it to my mom.”
